Went ice fishing on Lake St. Clair yesterday for the first time in many years. Started out from a friends house south of the spillway walked out about 100 yards to an area where the ice was bunched up. My plan was to cross this and keep going. What I did was to promptly break through the ice. Lucky for me it was less than three feet deep. I finally found an area to cross, continued out to the next area where the ice bunched up. I did not want to cross that so I drilled a hole and started fishing.
The water was still only 3-4 ft deep. In the summer it was 6 feet easily. No sign of fish. so we moved up to Selfridge. Tons of people. Fished for an hour or so there. No sign of fish anywhere. Nobody that I talked to had caught anything.
This is my usual luck at ice fishing. This is probably my tenth time ice fishing in my life. I dont think I have ever caught more than a fish or two. Oh well, I'm not giving up. I'll try it again one day this week

Hey Frank, next time try a small hook with a wiggler or waxworm. Jigging those 8 and 10 inch Muskie baits doesn't produce all that many fish!;)

I was up at Harley Ensign. Saw at least a dozen pike and a few 'eyes iced. One pike was a nice fattie, probably 43-44."

I fished Harley Ensign also, both Sat and Sunday. Managed a few nice sized perch each day but didn't get any hits on the tip ups. We were fishing on the river though just to the right of the launch towards the open water.

Esox.....where did you see the pike and walleye get taken from....on the river or out in the bay. If this was on the river....which area was it? I noticed tons of people by the open water to the left of the launch, but didn't try there. Thanks in advance for your help.

Up the river from the launch, about 1/4 mile, right where the cut goes under S. river rd.
