My buddy Ron and I went out yesterday for some Perch.
Just got the hole clear when this fella came in..
It was a good start to our day!
Put the tape on him he is pushing 38"
Put him on my good hand scale but it only reads to ten pounds
Put him on a cheepy scale-it reads 18lbs....But I dont really think he is that heavy.....I'm thinking more like 15lbs.
We also got 25 nice Perch 9"-12"
I do not know how to post a pic on this site!
So I will email a pic to Joe G. and see if he can post it for me..

oops sorry about that , I should have told you we fished lk St.Clair, in Fair Haven
My buddy called me from the shanty today and said he seen another very large pike, but there seems to have been some problem about his spear and the pike not arriving at the same place at the same time?
He was pretty wound up but think what he was saying was that he missed it!!

Very cool. My favorite eating fish is pike now.
I have been freezing my pike to smoke all at once. I think I have 15lbs of frozen skinned pike bodies ready to go maybe this weekend. Yum!

you smoke them , you know I have never tried it that way
Bet it's good,
I sent this one over to my buddy's Mom,she cans them...they make some good sandwitch spread,or it,s preety good with some white cheese N crackers and a cold brew!
One other thing I should have told you people is that there is some very large schools of 8"-15" shad cruisin around the bay,I mean big schools,if I had to guess I would say some of the schools had to have better than a thousand fish.
some times they just fill the hole and stream by for minutes at a time.
So I am sure that has to be bringing in the big toothy fish
I just got another report that my buddy Mike spotted a big lake trout or somthing like that pushing 20 pounds
Mike is from Arizona so he is not sure what it was,but it was very large and it was slammin shad!

Tonga, I have an aquarium in my basement with 12-15" suckers and shiners. We use big shiners when we pike fish and it really pays off but the big bait is really hard to find.
Fishing around all the perch fisherman locally on Lake St.Clair people think your strange when you set up a tip up with a 12" sucker... but once a year or so it pays off big. So instead of having an extra perch rig we have one tip-up between two guys for musky.
Between our group of 3 guys I bet we have caught 100 pike this winter already but nothing of that size.
