Yesterday a truck went thru the ice, this guy had a trailer, and was selling hot dogs pop coffee. This truck went thru basically 21mile rd, thats between cotton rd and selfridge, THIS GUY TRIED TO CROSS THE PRESSURE CRACK. the bad thing is this will probably get looked at as a dumb fisherman.

I am just thankful that he put himself at risk to help make all of us comfortable while fishing.

M.H.

On a serious note: I hope he is ok

the guy was alright, they were trying to get the truck out from shore, lift it over a sea wall, the front end of the truck was totally mess up, felt really bad for the guy.

Poor guy, Probably just trying to make a couple of extra bucks.

He's got a good idea though. Maybe next time if he uses a 4 wheeler or something like that it will work out better for him.

That's gotta suck.....:(

I grew up with vehicles out on the ice - gotta know conditions and thickness before doing it. That was a good idea one of you had for that guy - 4-wheeler with a trailer. Hope he can figure out a better way to make some bucks and maybe still provide the ice fishermen with a good service!

Now that's dedication.....crossing a pressure crack to feed a few ice fisherman!!! Actually, I've always wondered why someone on Lake Erie or LSC doesn't have a bait/food/etc. boat during perch seasons....seems that they could sell quite abit of bait, pop, etc. from a boat anchored out near the packs. You could post GPS co-ords on the net and let the customers come to you! (or put a bell on the boat and drive through the "neighborhood" like the Good Humor man!)

Two years ago, a guy on Lake Simcoe was doing this same thing using a 4-wheeler with the plastic enclosure. Now mind you, this is a lake that generally has 2 to 3 feet of ice. On this occasion, there was 3 feet of ice and he wasn't driving around in a car or truck. Guy on St. Clair has a good idea, bad choice of transportation.

I know this is a COMPLETELY different situation, but here goes ....

Last night on the History Channels I watched Modern Marvels. The subject was "Ice Road Truckers. It was very interesting. It basically told the story of the "Ice Roads" they make and use up in Northern Canada. (Nortwest Territories) These guys are driving 50K lbs trucks on the ice for 150 miles in a stretch !!! AMAZING. That takes some CAJONES !!! They were saying that it takes at least 40" of ice to support a vehicle of that weight.

It was a very interesting program and I highly recommend watching it if you ever get the chance.

I don't mind drivin on it as long as everybody else is. Just keep an eye out, know the lake and stay in the tracks.

Oh, and a quick prayer doesn't hurt.

SFW, you can ride with me bro.

I've been down off 19 mile twice in the past couple of weeks and have seen a vehicle on the ice both times. What surprised me is that he was only out half as far as I had walked. I don't have any sympathy for someone that goes in. Wait- sure I do- about as much as I have for the guys that get blown out into the lake on a chunk of ice. Dumb!

I remember something similar in Pt. Huron several years ago. When I was a kid my dad and I used to fish the St. Clair river behind the city/county buliding. There was a guy that had modified cube van into a mobile bait shop. He used to have hot coffee, pop, sandwhiches and all other sorts of goodies on board along with bait. It was really cool and a great idea too. I wonder what ever happend to him.

During summer on LSC there is a guy in a house boat that sells pop, hotdogs, smokes etc. He anchors up at Gull Island, wonder if it's the same guy?
