Hey guys! Fished Hess on Thurs. night 9:30p - 12:30a. Went w/ two other guys and caught 17 decent specks on minnows. Fished in 23' of water and found them anywhere from 11' to 18' down. If you head out, make sure you eat your Wheaties! There's a solid 12" of ice out there. On that note, there's a fishing contest Saturday out there from 7:00a - 2:30p if you're feeling lucky!
Good luck guys! Sid

I knew last night would be good! I've been cooped up with a cold all week. I saw the barometer last night it was high. Glad you caught something decent. I haven't been able to get anything above 9.5" this year. Were you off the pennisula? Just curious. Take care

hey lakeman. a friend of mine i've worked with for many years used to live on Hess til last year. i fished the tournaments for a couple of years and had a great time up there. how is the pike action the past few days?? we usually do fairly well when we go but was just wondering what the locals thought. thanks.

Yeah Hesslakeman, we were just east of the penninsula. I guess I should clarify my definition of "decent" though. Since I normally fish Reeds Lake in GR, anything in the 8-10" range is decent to me!!! I'm longing for the day when I can filet six 12-14" fish instead of 17 of the smaller ones! Speaking of good fish, I've fished Petit Lake in the past w/ pretty good success. You or anybody else been there this year?
Take care and Good luck!, Sid

I haven't ever fished Petit Lake. I heard there was an access but I never have found where it is at. If you wouldn't mind, PM directions if there is a public access. Thanks.
Ybone, I haven't been out lately because of a bad cold but my uncle has done ok. Nothing real big. They usually run around 30-32". He usually gets 4 or 5 on a day in front of his cottage.
Brad.
Well we fished Hess on Saturday. What a slow day. If we could keep the bass away we problay would of done all right. A lot of dink perch and flags. We had a few on but lost them. A lot of vehicals on the ice on Saturday plus a lot of people, snowmobiles, and Ice bikes. Hopefully in a couple weeks it will be better fishing.

MGV, you hit Hess when they had their winterfest. There normally isn't that much traffic on the lake. If you ventured to the middle some guys were doing ok for specks in the afternoon. I didn't fish and was one of the snowmobiles drag racing and buzzing around. If you got em, use em:D

I won't be out. I'm heading up to Canada skiing. Good luck guys, it looks like it will be a good weekend. For those planning on Hess, it has at least 12" of ice and full size trucks have been out in the middle in the deep holes but stay away from the northeastern corner. It was the last to freeze over and is still a little thin.
As of right now i am not planning on going to hess until the weekend of Feb 8. We might try some different lakes since the fishing on Hess is not that great this year.
