Hey all! Must say I've gotten hooked on this forum! Lots of great information, good humor and fun. Thought I'd share a quick story.. A few nights ago two buddies and I sat for hours with no action, when Jeff got a hard hit and pulled a fighter up from the bottom. At first glance we thought it was a Rock Bass, but it did not have red eyes, and frankly we just thought it was too big! Took it to the local bait shop and they had no idea either. Finally, one of the guys took it to the DNR office and the fisheries biologist said it is indeed a Rock Bass, and that although rare, sometimes they do not have red eyes. At any rate, at about 12 1/2 inches and nearly 2 pounds it qualifies Jeff for his first Master Angler award.

Haven' figured out how to post pics yet on this thing... I'll get it sooner or later. The bait shop guy put a pic of it on his site:

Unfortunately at this point it was a couple of days old and not looking so hot!

Looks like a cross between a smallmouth and a rock bass , Maybe we should start calling it a rockmouth bass LOL

warmouth's are smaller fish....If you catch a 10 incher it's huge.

So there's a difference between warmouths and rock bass? I thought that they were the same? Learn something new all the time on this site.:)

I lived down south in Virginia and they call their Rock Bass - Red Eyes... Used to catch very large ones in the New River up to 16"ers. Great time, used to bring a large inner tube, a small inner tube to wedge my cooler in with my wobble-pop's, splitshots, hooks and worms. Tied the 2 tubes together and floated from one submerged bolder to the next. Stood up on the big rocks when I got to them and started casting. Good mixture of Big Red Eyes and Largemouth Bass. Covered lots of water but the walk back to the truck sucked...:D
