Do any of you bowyers use the type of bow vice you set on and use your legs to hold pressure on your stave while you use the drawknife and scraper? I built one from plans, it works good to. Mine is called the stave master. I seen the one they call the bow horse, it looks nice to. I also seen some with the tillering tree built right on them, they look handy to. Woodencanoe,

That is a cool looking vice. I made mine from 2"x10" with two threaded rods coming up perpindicular to the surface you sit on. Then I have a 4x4 with holes drilled in it to slip over the threaded rods with nuts on the threaded rods to tighten down onto to wood to be worked. It kind of a pain but it holds the wood secure. What kind of wood do you prefer I know of some good Osage patches in your area. Have you ever considered having a weekly get together to work on bows and share knowledge. Let me know I have been thinking about doing something like that.

Thats a great looking vice. Is that a dowell that holds the stave against the plank?
Nice job!

Osage, all I worked with so far is osage orange, yes the get togther sounds good to me. I seen one of your earlier post about people getting togther on a certain night in our area, if thats the Gary Davis get togther I like to do that also. I'd to learn that fish tail joint he does to splice handles togther. Alot of bow building over there I hear.
Airoh, yes thats dowell, like the size of closet rod.
Thanks again, Woodencanoe.

Very Nice!!! One of these days when I am up to my hometown of New Lothrop, I will have to look you up. I will send a copy of your pic to my brother Terry he lives in Chesaning. He has made several selfbows, and will be interested.

bishs, yes when you get around this way stop in I'll have the coffee on. I got that pretty oak for the shav'in horse over in your old stomp'in grounds, (E&L Hardwoods) on Gary RD. If your brother thinks he might want to build one of those some day, I'll try to find my plans and make a copy to send him. Another thing about it is the front leg folds back and the rear legs fold forward for storage.I got my 3rivers catalog yesterday in the mail and they don't have the plans listed this year. well take care bishs.
