Moe,
I suggest if your thinking about starting you get a cheap recurve off ebay, or a pawn shop. Find one that fits you. The poundage on them is measured at 28 inches, and your draw length will be around 1 or 2 inches shorter that your compound draw length. Mine dropped 1 1/2 inches. If you have a longer draw length you will want to look at a bow with a longer overall length so when you draw the string doesn't pinch your fingers. I have found most to be between 58" and 62" (recurves that is).

I got a recurve a few years back for only a few bucks, and am loving it now. I just got done making up more arrows for it today! Can't wait to get outsidetomorrow with weather permitting and toss some sticks around! Have fun with it. Once you start, you can't stop.

Moe--if you are a member of Michigan Traditional Bowhunters, you might contact Lonnie Collins. He has a business called Recycled Recurves, and, as you might guess from the name, he deals in used recurves. I've purchased around 10 from him over the years for my wife, grandchildren, and myself. If he doesn't have what you're looking for, or the price you want to pay, he'll find it for you.

Best of luck, and God bless, Arch.

A good place to look would be the Traditional Bowhunters Expo, they will have many vendors and lots of recurves and longbows. Click the "Traditional Bowhunters Expo" Topic, I posted earlier

Recurve

Last year I decided to try bowhunting and bought a Howatt Hunter recurve, second hand from a friend for $150.00. It is 65# @ 28" and I draw 29.5" so I am probably drawing closer to 70#. I have taken 3 deer with it, a doe last year and a doe and a buck this year. I would like to go lighter and have a custom made bow done by Lone Wolf in Northern Michigan but I would never sell this bow. Give it a shot, you'll love it!

Hello, my wife Christi had a custom recurve built by Lone wolf. She has the Banshee. It is a beautiful recurve, it shoots real nice. He makes some great bows, and really knows what he is doing.

Moe, the recurves (non-custom) that I really liked when I first started looking are made by Bear and Martin. I ended up with a Dreram Catcher. I really really liked the Bear Kodiak. <----<<<
