Martin regrets run-ins with students
Associated Press
ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Michigan athletic director Bill Martin pushed a student and grabbed the wind breaker of another student during two football games, according to a department of public safety report.
Michigan student Jackie Turner says she told Martin he needed a pass to enter the regents guest area of the press box Sept. 12 during a game against Notre Dame. She said he pushed her shoulder and walked past her. "Honey, I am the athletic director," Turner quoted him as saying, according to a university report on the incident. On Oct. 17, Eastern Michigan student Arif Khan said he told Martin and a female companion they needed passes to enter the area after a game against Delaware State. Khan said Martin grabbed his jacket. "I am the athletic director, I can go in," Khan quoted Martin as telling him. Turner and Khan were interviewed on Oct. 18, three days before Martin announced he would retire in September. The students said they were uninjured and did not want to press charges. "I contacted those involved to discuss the situation and express my regret," Martin said in a statement released by the school Monday night. "I know they were just doing their jobs." Martin, who became Michigan's athletic director in 2000 on an interim basis, announced his retirement in a letter to university president Mary Sue Coleman. "Being the Michigan AD is not just a job, it's a way of life and one I have embraced full force," Martin wrote in the letter made public Oct. 21. Coleman has said Martin will remain as AD until a successor is chosen and then he will remain a special adviser to her until retiring. Domino's Pizza Inc. CEO David Brandon, a former Michigan football player and regent at the school, is among the candidates to succeed Martin.

Michigan coach Beilein looks at guy sideways
Detroit Free Press
ANN ARBOR Mich. –University of Michigan Men’s Basketball coach, John Belien stirred up more controversy for the college’s athletic department after a run-in with an innocent bystander on a local street yesterday. According to eyewitnesses, Beilien was traveling southbound in his vehicle when he slowed down next to local citizen, Oliver Klozeoff. The 3rd year men’s basketball coach then proceeded to give Mr. Klozeoff an odd look. “I was shocked” the shaken pedestrian told reporters. “Here I am, minding my own business on a lovely Tuesday afternoon, and this guy slows down and gives me the funniest look, right out of the corner of his eye.” Mr. Klozeoff went on to explain how the look left him feeling odd, and unsure of himself. He commented that he may not be able to get to sleep without a few “PBR’s” this evening. It is unclear at this time whether or not Klozeoff will seek professional help after this incident. Immediately after the incident in question, Beilien turned into a local deli and donut shop. Some observers wonder whether the odd glance in question was directed at said shop, and not Mr. Klozeoff. However, many internet message board experts feel that since Beilien recently coached at West Virginia University (the same university where Michigan football coach Rich Rodriguez formerly coached) it is safe to assume the worst about him.
This news comes on the heels of several other controversies at the university, such as finding out that the football program practices as much as other programs around the country, and the fact that the Athletic Director is kind-of a jerk. At this point there are no reports of legal or disciplinary action being taken against Beilien.
We didn’t bother to reach John Beilien for comment for the story.

More Breaking News!!
The NCAA is investigating the U-M football program after reports were leaked out that the players have been doing exceptionally well academically. This apparently stems from an incident where Coach Rich Rodriguez unknowingly cast aspersions on the storied program by stating they have the highest GPA of any previous team in the history of Wolverine football. It appears that the team may be in violation of NCAA rules that prohibit any Division 1 program from exceeding academic guidelines which may lead to higher GPA's. The NCAA feels that this may set a dangerous precedent whereby academics becomes more important than football.

It's amazing the degree of classless behavior that UM fans have grown to suddenly accept the last 2 years while this backwoods redneck runs a storied college football program into the ground.

Was Bill Martin walking around playing "Do you know who I am" and pushing student employees of the University when Lloyd was coach?
This guy is clearly unable to cope with the fact that he completely botched the process of hiring the successor to Lloyd and feels the need to take it out on a couple of kids making $7.25 and hour.

Not really. It is simply living in denial and the arrogance once again, just keep repeating to yourself over and over again, "WE ARE MICHIGAN AND WE'LL BE BACK."
As we all know, there is not one single shread of evidence to show they'll be back anytime soon. The next two weeks, (if the Purdue game wasn't enough) will really prove that. There is no one in the conference or the country who fears them or respects them anymore.

No one knows with any certainty but normally a leopard doesn't change his spots;).
I think its kind of funny(actually hilarious:lol::lol:) that you are now somehow blaming RR for what Bill Martin does. Freud would be proud!!:lol:

I'm not blaming Rich Rod.
I'm saying Bill Martin can't take the heat for the bad decision he made.

I've always been rather ambivalent toward Martin, but would be tempted to side with him in this particular situation, except "Being the Michigan AD is not just a job, it's a way of life" is a pretty weird thing to say.
No Billy, it is not a way of life, it's just a job. An example of 'way of life' is sailing in Florida, kinda like you what were doing when the Les Miles debacle was occurring.

Martin acted like a douche. That's about as newsworthy as the fact that I had eggo waffles for breakfast.
Michigan's football program is in shambles. Will it be back. Who knows? I certainly hope so. But unfortunately, now Michigan fans have to put up with people who hate the school piling on at every opportunity, while ironically being called classless and arrogant.

We do not dig these stories up ourselves, they are being reported in the press at a national level and the responses to the stories by the UM community has been classless and arrogant many times. When you are in the middle of an NCAA investigation, the microscope is zoomed in...might be best just to deal with it or ignore it instead of pointing the finger back at people who are not doing anything wrong.

Hey, this is my Haley's Comet. I am 34, and likely this is the only time I will ever see this program in such a sad state of disarray.
If you think I'm going to sit back and be quiet and let it pass you are nuts.

Why? Notre Dame hasn't done squat for going on 20 years now. People who think their program is immune because they used to win conference championships and a split national championship every 60 years are foolish, plain and simple. You are not your past, you are your record.

eh, don't get me wrong, I'm mostly in agreement with michihunter and cmrm here, I don't see it as being that newsworthy, but on the other hand, I'll only go so far to try to defend douchebaggery.
And here is as far as I'll go for that -- I really don't think people in a position of power engaging in douchebaggery is a UM exclusive thing, despite what spartan nation would like to have everyone believe. There are plenty of 'do you know who I am' people everywhere. If Tressel forgot his vest on the way into the horseshoe one day and got stopped by a baby-faced workstudy freshman from overseas who didn't know who the hell he was, I doubt he would have a lot of patience. Just a theory though....defense over, eff Martin.
I disagree that stories like this are a byproduct of that investigation though, they would be happening anyways. There are so many traditional journalists and new bloggers assigned to the Michigan beat, they have to find something to write about and this stuff is just easy pickings I guess....maybe if Michigan didn't suck so bad right now there would be better material.

Well the recovery doesn't seem to be "V" shaped and another underwhelming season will get the denialists to actually question whether they have the right man for the job...I think you have a couple more years to enjoy the self inflicted mess that is Michigan football. I think you're pleasure will outlast a maize hat on RR.
