What arrow would you predict the best paper punch with? I have a 28 inch draw, and shoot 60#. I started with 2216 and 125 grain Thunderheads. I switched to Gold Tips with 125 grain Thunderheads and they just don't seem right. I am thinking of changing to a 100 grain Thunderhead. The arrow chart says that a 2312 would be a good choice with "medium" stiffness. Deep down I am leaning towards this combination, but looking for your opinions. What should I do? The main reason I am thinking of change is I really need to see a good paper punch before I feel confident in the woods. <----<<<

Joe, your Gold tips need to be spined properly to punch a perfect hole. They have a system to add weight inside your shaft to either end to spine them correct.

The Gold Tip system is more than some people want to fuss with. Adding weight to the front is easy, Black Widow sells washers that weigh 5 grains each, they can be added to your head to fine tune your arrows spine.

Many traditional archers start with an arrow that is too long and "underspined", they keep cutting the arrow shorter until they get a perfect paper hole.

I like to paper tune at about 10 feet

Up and down tears can usually be corrected by moving the nock up or down. Also sand inside of nocks if they grip too tight, arrow should be able to hang from your bow string, but can be tapped off with your finger.

Arrow tears to the left, "underspined", add weight to the rear of arrow, or shoot a lighter head or shorten arrow

Arrow tears to the right, "over spined", add weight to the front of arrow, remove weight in rear or shoot a longer arrow.

Whenever you are starting from scratch, it is best to start with an arrow that you know for sure is underspined. the reason for this; in some cases an arrow that is extremely over spined will behave as if it is underspined, it will confuse you.

They also have weight tubes that can be added inside your arrow, the weight is even along the entire length of the arrow, this weight will change the arrows penetration but will not change the spine. Some archers put a piece of weed wacker string inside to increase arrow weight to get max penetration.

Hope that helps
Scott
