The Michigan Department of Natural Resources Law Enforcement Division has stated that they wish to eliminate the handicap crossbow permit system and allow ANYONE to use a crossbow during bow season. There are presently 11,500 (handicap) permits issued and we suspect that many of them are fraudulent as a result of the Law Division's failure to police the applications and enforce the statute. They state that the volume of permit applications is taking up too much time to process.
The MBH Legislative Committee will attend the next NRC meeting and recommend a more appropriate course of action be taken (enforcement of the present law) and insist that the Law Division not be allowed to wash their hands of the handicap crossbow permit system.
