We paddled A/L to Ryan today. Water was just under 200 cuft/sec or high and fast. There were three major obstructions. Between the first CR trail bridge and the red dog house there is a new blow down. This tree traverses the entire river and is just at water level or submerged. A real skinny paddler, like my wife, could scoot over it, but not us big boys. If the water were up a couple more inches then it wouldn’t be a problem. There is also a new blowdown about 20 minutes before Yates. There is a way to get around on the far left side but a viscous submerged log awaits just on the other side as my wife unhappily found out. Finally a new blowdown between Yates and Ryan. This is a tree which traverses the entire river at about eye level. I thought I’d be able to duck under it….HA! Found out my dry suit leaks!
All in all we had fun. My wife's brother joined us. He is rather inexperienced and he got real wet, real quick. He was done by Yates so we left him there and went on. I don’t think he’ll be joining us again until the warm days of summer.
For all us idiotic die hards....the season is just beginning!
