Hi all,I have a couple of questions on my Bear Super Kodiac 55# recurve bow. This was my first bow that I got when I was 15 years old. I hunted with it back then and I decided to paint it a camo pattern and sprayed paint all over it(was young & dumb) and never hunted with it for over 20 years and kept it in storage until last night when I read Steve's post about Bear recurve bows.I then went down in the basement and dug it out and decided that I would try to take off the paint that I put on it 25 years ago.I finally found some Xyelene that I put on a rag and with a lot of elbow greese and 1 1/2 hrs.of breathing this stuff the bow turned out just like it looked when I got it.What a beautiful bow!!! This bow was laminated with a strip of Purpleheart wood down through the riser and on the tips.
I then stopped at the archery shop today and purchased a new string, glove, stringer, arrow rest felt, and Puffs.
Now for the questions;(1)When I strung the bow up I found that the bottom limb has a twist in it. I would like to know if this will effect my shooting accuracy and is there anything I can do to try to correct this problem? (2)On the inner upper limb where it says Super Kodiac with Fascor there is a sticker in the shape of a sheild that said Victor and had a bullseye with wheat grain heads around the bullseye. What does this sticker stand for?
Any help with these questions would be greatly appreciated :) Thank You...SnS

StrutnSpur,
Have you tried to shoot it yet? I have an old Bear recurve and the bottom limb on mine is twisted slightly. I got it down last year because I wanted to hunt with it but every second or third time that I would draw it it would throw the string because of the twisted limb. I got lucky an didn't get hurt very much but I would caution you about trying to draw your bow too much, having a bow come unstrung at full draw can be very dangerous. Big Al.

Shooting a bow with a twisted limb will only cause further damage. If the twist is not to extreme you can try "bumping" it back in line. You do this with the bow unstrung, and twist the limb in the direction needed to straighten it out. A friend of mine (experienced traditional archer) said you can slightly heat a twisted limb as you bump. This however, is second hand information. <----<<<

The bow has a slight twist to the left ,but not much.It has not thrown the string yet while drawing ,but I have yet to shoot it.Thanks for the info, I will try to bump it back somehow...SnS

As far as accuracy, it should still repeat everytime you shoot.
I have my first recurve that I teach newbies to shoot with. It was made around 1964. It has very minor limb twist, and it not a problem. If it has bad checks in the glass I would take it in and someone look at it. Good Luck!
