I think the ducks are reading the shooting times on the regs. Yesterday, flintfisher44 & I headed out for a 3-6:52pm hunt. We only saw two mallards & 4 woodducks (none of which came in range).I did manage a little coot control though. After shooting time, as we were picking up the decoys, we had probably 100 ducks flying over and working the spread as we were standing in it.I think I'm done trying that spot in the PM. Hopefully they'll all be there saturday morning.

Gotta go on stormy overcast days. shooting times are like that for a reason, get there when its naturally not supposed to be dark out and you will beat the system.

i hear ya man. in years past and all 4 evenings so far this season... same thing EVERY time.
it's either that, or when i decide to come in from the morning hunt, i'm always caught in the middle of the spread with the decoy bag in my hand instead of the gun.

Same issue all the time...went out Tues and all birds dropped in after shoot time...on opening day we where packing up...guns put away and the biggest, most colorful Woody I have ever seen lands 10 yards away...that image will remain in my head forever

If I'm alone, I'll use the sling on my gun and strap it to my back while I pick up dekes. I say alone because I don't want to put anyone at harm if I do have partners with a shotgun on my back. I don't wan to accidentally point it at anyone.

Oh, if I'm picking up DURING shooting hours, the gun is the LAST thing packed up.

Don't feel bad, if you had your gun in hand the birds wouldn't have come anyway...they have a crazy sixth sense for knowing exactly when you are busy doing something else, it is a proven fact.;)

sunday morning about 3 minutes after I turned on the lucky duck I had three woodies try to land on my head and I was standing there with no gun in my hand contemplating reaching up and grabbing at their feet.
