This happen to a guy I know, Names have been edited out. This happen 1/12/03

Tried fishing Gun Lake out from the State Park lauch this past Sunday morning, however my fishing time was cut short when I broke through about 6" of water-logged ice in about 15 ft. of freezing water. There was just myself, a friend, and another guy out there trying to catch some 'eyes.

I drilled numerous holes that morning and the ice was at least a solid 6". However all that I can figure is that there was a patch of water-logged ice that was hidden by the drifting snow. I was also only a few feet away from a snowmobile trail before I went through.

Luckily for me, my fishing partner knew exactly what to do and threw me a rope with an attached floatation cushion that I always bring along - just in case.

Another individual also fell through the ice trying to help me. He was nearly 30 feet from the area where I fell through, and the ice also gave way without any warning. He was able to flip himself back on the ice and he also assited with pulling me from the ice.

So be careful out there and never assume that the ice is consistantly solid or safe without using a spud!!!

I owe the guy who helped pull me from the ice alot, but he took off before I could thank him.

I especially owe my fishing partner for staying calm and helping me get out of the ice hole alive and well!!!
