According to the Sunday GR Press some salmon were spotted on the beds near Newaygo.Since I walk the parks almost daily there,I had seen a couple fish a few days ago but not much pressure. So Mom and me go for our walk Monday afternoon and its apparent a lot of people read the Sunday Press, because I counted at least 5 boats between the bridges in Newaygo jetting up and down, some snagging ,most not. Most of the boats were in typical "Bank-Billie" areas.A question I have is,if you have a boat, why launch it only to motor out only a hundred or so feet from a launch and anchor on top of the beds? Why not go upstream away from town were more fish may or may not be?I've seen more elsewhere. Some of these boats were obviously guides that had read the paper and were showing customers how to "Floss" BTW ,there were more on gravel last evening than on the weekend, with more beds made.

A question I have is,if you have a boat, why launch it only to motor out only a hundred or so feet from a launch and anchor on top of the beds?

Heres my three common sense reasons:

1.) So you don't have to get your waders wet.

2.) Some people who own boats like to save on gas.

3.) Your vantage point is much better to slip the fish the fly.

I would say Newaygo will be a zoo with the paper readers fishing.I would try upsteam further ,Where Spruce should cross the river there were lots on the gravel in a unspecified hole area. The beds in town are overrun with boats, seen a lot of salmon downstream from Croton on gravel and elsewhere. All the other locals are very tight-lipped about this and told me nothing was going on.

was there last Wed. for a couple of hours and went 2 for 3 on kings. No one was around. Fish were in the holes and very few were on gravel. I would say this is the week.

Of course all the Muskegon regulars are tight-lipped. We basically know that if you say too much, someone's gonna get on the internet and tell everyone where to go.

Thats why I waited till it was in the paper, but what got me ,while at the Pine Street launch,1 mile down from Croton Dam,there were people(term used loosely) I politely asked "how's it going",they told me the salmon were 500yds upstream on the gravel, when I know better, they said nothings at the launch and they proceeded to keep some really small 'bows,so I go 50 feet downstream from the launch to the usual beds twenty feet offshore and looked at all the salmon.Being a REFORMED fisherman I didn't have as much luck as the others ,actually 0 for 3 in 2 hours, all the while listening to rude comments on the way I was dressed, kind of boots I had on,(didn't need the waders )tossing small rocks towards me,drinking glass bottles of brew, seen a nearby resident taking a video of it as well as the vehicles in the lot.All that BS to keep others from enjoying their outing ,so they can keep the rotten things all to themselves. Not to mention what happens at the Dam,with the scouts in the parking lots alerting the violators that someone in coming down the hill and to stop snagging, and when that someone goes downsteam a little to fish, the violators alerts the scouts that all is clear, and they have their way with your vehicle and belongings,or just kick your butt and rob you or all of the above.I hope you TC, aren't one of THOSE regulars. From your previous posts it doesn't sound like you are though.

Those aren't regulars--they're just the backwoods f***'s that show up for a week during salmon season. You won't see them the rest of the year...well, they might show their faces again when the trout planting truck shows up in the spring and they can fill a bucket with sub legal sized trout.

When you mentioned something about the regulars and what not, I thought you were talking about the actual fishermen who run the Mo alot. What you described was anything but!

I was going to take my son up there Sunday (10/17) but I think I'll reconsider. And no I do not read the GR Press, my brother told me that it's pretty good fishing between Croton and Newaygo.

Don't let my paranonia cancel your trip,if you pick your spot and mind your own business and move on when you see that stuff happening ,it should be fun.But I usually just stay and aggravate the situation:D.I went to Pine St yesterday and it was cordial, except for the usual coolness of the fly fisherpeople but they aren't the problem
