http://www.basshavencanada.com/cgi-bin/swamp.pl Ice fishing is hot mitchells bay. 2 day limit with perch avg. 9" biggest 14 3/4. also saw lots of big pike. 2 miles out just right of a wht. shanty. 4' of water. one foot of ice. Check the Swanp bait stor prior to going out. Some sml. open sopts to the right. It was a blast perch swimming up into the hole. I evin attempted to grab one (11"er) held it and it got away. Fish in my shanty jumped back into the hole and others got loose at the surface and jumped in . Fishing was fast and fun. Good luck all.

Ed, click on "Your Pictures" at the top of the page. Then click on "my gallery" and there will be a line that says "upload photos". Click on the "browse" button and it will take you to your computer and you can select which ones you want. After you select the picture hit "ok" in the window and you will be back to MS, then hit the "upload" button. The rest of the info for puting up pics on a post is in the photo gallery forum. If you have trouble let me know.

so, when we going????

I wouldn't drive there by myself, but i'm up to carpool with someone to share expenses and the fact that i don't know where to go.

2 miles is kind of a far walk, but hell, i'd do it for a mess of fish like that.

Any info on getting there, etc. would be helpful.

Thanks,
Steve

There should be an ice taxi working out there starting today, usually $5 each way. Also should be one running out of St.lukes bay too.

Watch that website listed,, if Leamington starts getting alot of threads about it,, they are talking west of the point pelee park gates. If the ice is safe out there the perch fishing is phenomanal!!

hey canadian hunter I have been in that area by boat but have no knowledge of where these gates are at the state park. I may get some time to head that way next weekend and would love to see some of those phenom perch. I may stay close by my area if the situation improves but I am close enough to get to leamington in a few hours. I am in fremont ohio and the ice on this side as of today is quite iffy! If there are any guides in the area your talking about please let me know. Any info on any aspect of ice fishing the area will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance Ollie

If and this is a BIG IF, if the ice is safe out there youll hear about it on that website,, people will just say leamington.

On the west side of the road that leads to pointe pelee provincial park between a place called sturgeon creek(small marina here) to the park gates.

People fish in the years with safe ice,, this looks like it could be one of them, may be a little early still! There is very limitted parking in the area,, one place is a small neighbourhood park with about 20 spots total! theres a couple more but its only 2 or 3 spots and id like one of them:D .

Just walk out quarter mile, pop a hole and start searching. Half mile out you will be in mid 20's. Last time we had safe ice out there(2 years ago) it took longer to drive out there from windsor and walk out than it did to hit a 50 fish limit. I dont see why it will be any different this year!

I love to fish Mitchell's in the late fall but this last fall, I never heard of any good reports. I saw a lot of Canadians that were much farther out in the lake so I never ventured in that tight. I'm not much of an ice fisherman but if I were going to give it an honest attempt, that's where I would go. Thanks for the heads up!

Canadian Hunter, is there a bait store near the park or in the general area? I am not much of an ice fisher, but all this talk about catching perch has got me ready to go:)

There isnt a good bait store out near leamington. Stop in Windsor on Sandwich street 2 good shops there!

I wouldnt go to leamington now,, reports have been real spotty,, St.Lukes is where all the fun is!

Mitchells is hot, just got back from my fourth trip over there, we usually fish couchiching but with this great action 2.5 hrs closer I am there. We had four guy's with four limits of nothing but Jumbo's . I also saw some big gills, big pike, and Smallmouth. I never knew LSC was so good.

I heard that the end of the tree line was good for perch, is this true??? If so, how big, and what numbers, would save a long walk. For perch, do you go out of St.Lukes, or mitchells bay?? I've seen that ukes drops off much faster, and is probaily better for perch.

Well guy's without giving away the farm I would recommend 4 ft of water or 11-12 ft of water . Stop at about 1.5 miles out try it for a few then move out another mile , if you start pounding them stay where your at. If it ain't happening go all the way out to the furthest group in the 11-12 ft range they'll be pullin perch. Stick with spoons ,and artificial's they will out produce minnows anyday. I don't want to say how many perch I have in the freezer, or the fact that they are all a minimum of 9" but they were all caught on artificial baits, ie spoons. I have already said to much and I am for sure going to catch hell from some people I fish with. But the way I see it I have more than enough ,and the ice doesn't get this good very often so go get'em boy's. Good luck. P.S take a few waxies ,and a bluegill rod , I saw some jumbos but I didn't have anything for them.
