i got to thinking the other day while i was fishing i realized that i had never caught a rockbass thru the ice let alone see one under the ice. i catch them in the summer on these same lakes but nothing in the winter. just wondering if its me or if anyone else has this problem. if you have any ideas or thoughts on this i would like to hear from you. thanks buckslayermichigan

I caught one this year and Stelmon had a pic posted on here a few weeks ago that he caught icefishing. Your right, it doesnt happen often but I do get em once in awhile thru the ice.

Wow, I would of thought different. I just started Ice fishing this year and on one of the trips, 3 out of 5 were rock bass. I did notice that they were hitting different. THey would trap the minnow and go straight to the bottom or make a popping look with the bobber. Maybe I was just lucky....Here is that pic.

Was on the same lake this year twice so far. First time out I caught two Rock Bass....both kinda small. Then I went out the second time and caught another. Those are the first ones I ever caught but just starting to experiment with fishing different lakes this year.

I never had caught any rockies through the ice either until this winter. Caught some on LSC with teardrop/spike while fishing for crappies and gills.

Nope never have caught on through the ice. But then again I dont generally catch to many during the summer. Except on ocassion when fishing for pike on a bait bigger than the fish itself.

the black river up in cheb co. you can catch them tru the ice one right after the other .
Seem to catch at least one a year fishing for eyes on Houghton w/ jigging raps. They are usually on the larger size too. I have already caught my one for this year.
