Just recieved this from Brad Wurfel, the DNR's Press Secretary, along with photos taken this morning of the stretches of open water off Long Point, Harvey Marine, and Houghton Lake Heights. These photos will be posted shortly on the MON board with the other photos taken Monday morning...please be careful out there this weekend, even with the present cold weather, the holes aren't closing up...

"The good news, according to the DNR folks who flew the lake this morning, is that the holes are not growing. However, because of the wind, they're not freezing over, either. Basically, the situation is unchanged from Monday.
Some open water in the East Bay, and some more on the southwest bay. Most of the Tipup Town Festival activities are staged along the central portion of the south shore. Ice conditions there range up to 12 inches. Several vehicles were spotted parked on the lake this morning. We are not encouraging anyone to take a vehicle onto Houghton Lake at this time.
We are further reminding everyone on Houghton Lake to keep in mind that ice conditions range from 12 inches to open water, and thus everyone should remain cautious."
