Folks, I'm not able to take a co-worker out, I'm fishing St. Clair on Monday. But on Sunday he wants to take his kids to StoneyCreek. I know the general layout but haven't ice fished it before. Being the second time out, he would like to put them on some pan fish even if they are small. They will be catching and releasing since I don't want to get into cleaning with him yet, since he is just finding out that he needs to bring a scoop along with him to get the ice shaving out of the hole. (He looked puzzled when I asked him what the bottom looked like, or how clear the water was) I know everyone has an opinion, but any thoughts? They won't mind moving away from the crowd so they won't disturb the real fishermen, but he would hate to loose the kids interest on ice fishing since they like the outdoors so much.
Thanks in advance, Sir Don

Z202,

If he's taking the kids and wants to be assured of at least some action, I'd suggest the North lake. Not the main lake. There are some decent fish in the N. lake but they're tough to come by. There are however GOOD NUMBERS of gills in there. I'm almost sure that if he fishes there they'll get on to fish. They may be small but it should keep the kids interest.

To fish the North lake, park at the Ridgewood picnic parking area. There's a trail that heads down to the lake. It's near the end of the parking area (by the turn-around) It's not too far of a walk from there. I'd say just go out a little ways straight out from where the trail ends and you should find fish.

Good luck !
