Do anyone know if the parasol mushrooms are done in the Muskegon area? I have only found a couple of parasols and honeys but they were done for. Maybe it is too dry. Also, I think I have to look for one of those hens in the woods. Does anyone know if they grow in the Muskegon area?

First off..Welcome to the site SC!
There's quite a few shroom crazies here, so
you'll fit right in.

Not sure about Parasols in your area, but I know a couple of
folks in your area that find hen of the woods.
These next cold rains should start poppin some more hens,
shaggy manes, blewits and honeys hopefully.

Just curious, what other shrooms do you currently collect?

Right now just morels, honeys, parasols. We have been trying to find a way to expand our choices but we just don't know anyone who is familiar with the other kinds that are available. I have tried to find forays in michigan but have not been successful. It looks like you hunt quite a few different ones. A great way to spend a day. ;)

Wow, you were cleaning up on the cinnibars and such when I only found modest numbers a little while back. With the hens (and corals) I can almost say this has been one of the better years I ever had despite the dry weather. I have found bigger in the past but the quantity and quality (lack of bugs and dirt) this season has been spectacular. Crazyness isn't it?
One of my woods has now produced hens on every tree but one.
Still no honey's, wondering if they will even make a good showing of it this season....
But I must say, I am gonna soak up some morels and grill up a porterhouse and delmonico steak for dinner here shortly. I have been neglecting my morel stash and don't want to put some kind of jinx on myself

Sorry to here bd and I hope your doing better now.
Have picked hens from the last week of august up
until the 1st of November, so it's not over yet.
Plus, as you know, the best part of bass season
is just starting too.

Hey SC
Most folks I know just get a couple of good books and
read tons of info on the net and just learn a few new ones
every year including myself.
Just follow along here and quite a few members will post
pics of what they are currently finding and just plain
ask questions, I'm sure someone will be able to help.
There a few members here that have learned and started
picking quick a few new ones this year just doing the above.
I'm not sure how many new ones bassdisaster has learned this year,
but it's quite a few for sure.

here's an old thread on a few easy ones.

I don't know about the parasols in you're area. However, I've been hoping to find a shaggy parasol sometime soon. I've heard they are very robust and flavorful. I'm kind of wondering where the blewits and honeys are myself as well. Blewits are definitely on the top of my favorite list. Right up there with bi-colors, and horses. There's quite a few that are up near there on the top of my list as well. Also, welcome to this little corner of our woods. It's always nice to meet another mushroom crazy:D. BTW I just made a tasty cream of mushroom soup with hens, chickens, and a nice handful of black morels.:corkysm55.........now to make that squirrel pot pie with the five fox squirrels I just killed today. (Been hammering them under shagbark hickories lately.)

I just got done cleaning the squirrels tonight. Not making it today, but I plan on making it next week. I'm going to cook the meat till it falls off of the bone with the carrots. (So they aren't tough.), then take that and add it to the potpie mix. I've been planning on throwing some wild mushrooms in the mix too. Just not sure which ones I wanna throw in the mix yet. I'm thinking maybe some hygro's that I have sauteed in the freezer. Nice flavor together I think?
