Went to the river last night with Big Bob we caught three Sturgeon one 22" a 51" and a 52". You could not ask for a better night on the water the weather was perfect and those pesky skeeters were taking a nap. The 51 incher had a tag on it. I'm waiting on some pic's will post later.

Tom, where were you guys at? I was up above the ferry. Had them under the boat and jumping above the boat but not on the end of the line. Took a walleye home.

Hi Mike,
We were down on the lower river. Lots of big fish showing up on the fish finder. Used surf and turf to get them Crawlers only produced rockys and all surf only produced sheephead. Go figure. Someone set up below us but left before the bite. Bite started at 9:30 and ended at 11:30. Of note the weather changed just before Midnight wind speed, and direction changed.

Rick If I can get spots I have the most confidence in them followed by emerald shiners chubs and then Goldens.
Have any of you heard of a Ditch Eel? They use them out west for the White Sturgeon and I wondered if we have anything like them in our area. Out west they caught them in fresh water creeks.

Hey Tom,
Thanks for the report. I just picked up another 500 crawlers on my way home from the Sturgeon for Tomorrow banquet in Cheboygan. Please let us know the information on the tagged fish when you find out.

Won a shotgun in the earlybird raffle while at the banquet and had a chance to talk to Kelly Smith, the chief of the DNR Fisheries Division and Bob Garner amongst others. A good time was had by all but it took me off the river for a few days. Will be out as much as possible at least until the end of the month when I may switch to some perch and muskies. Maybe a little hunting too in October.

Ditch Eel?

From what I read, a Ditch Eel is a freshwater lamprey.

Great Lakes does have freshwater lamprey's. Native and non-native.

I dunno if I would introduce any west coast freshwater lamprey's into our system, dead or alive.

Mike, Its bad enough dealing with the fresh water lampreys that fall off these Sturgeon. I don't even like using a leech for Walleye.

Jim, it sounds like you met some of the players in the DNR. I would be interested in what they had to say. Way to go on the raffel that made for a very worth while trip.
Friday night we only heard two jump but had very large marks under the boat most of the night.

We fished Sunday night (9/13) from 7:30pm-11pm and unfortunately couldn't talk any sturgeon into biting. Just the usual rockies, sheephead and suckers.

We did have a few fish jump around us. Hopefully we'll have better luck next time.
