How to preserve skein?

Caught a few king females in Ludington over the weekend. The skein is sitting in my fridge. How do you preserve it so you can fish it in the fall when the kings are running the river?

I dont know much about it but my dad used to pack it in salt and store it in the refrigerator for a few weeks at a time. That would be a short term solution but Im not sure how the salt would affect the eggs.
