Hi all, got out today for a couple hours, found these and would like help on the ID, all were picked in an area that was primarily pine trees, with a couple very big oaks. The area had almost no brush and was easy walking.

the small darker red one I don't think is a chestnut, possibly a bicolor? the underside is yellow.

not sure if this is a chant, the shape seemed like it but have never found one and the color is pretty drab.

I plan on spore printing, I have never done that but picked up some pieces of glass and want to give it a try. I have the Audubon book and am trying to increase my knowledge and abilities to ID.
Thanks for any feedback!
Godspeed,

btw I am loving my new found addiction of hunting wild mushrooms.

The vast majority of them are chestnuts. The one you think is a chant is NOT a chanterelle. Chants have a yellowish color and FALSE gills. If you look at a regular store mushroom up close you will notice that it has sharp knife like flappy things underneath. Those are real gills. Chants will have blunt ridges on the bottom that resemble gill, but they are rounded and short. The little red one could be a bi-color, but it very well may not be as well. There are a couple boletes that are poisonous that very closely resemble a bicolor. They are a delicious edible, but if you're still learning it's not a beginner one. Bicolors bruise SLOWLY blue, have yellow pores and a red cap that matches the stem on the bottom. However the top of the stem near the pores is yellow. They also have a very short pore depth when cut in half. Beautiful find on the chestnuts. They are one of my favorites and a delicious edible. Congrats on you're find though and welcome on here. There's some good dudes here. I'll find you some links on these shrooms as soon as I figure out how to open another window on my in-laws computer.lol!

Yup very nice hit on the Chestnut's, the only time i seen that many i wasent yet interested in them, now that I am, I dont see as many Whats Up With That!
No that other shroom is NOT a chantrell, Ive seen lots of similars, but once you get a REAL chant and inspect it completely, then you will see in reality none of those other are even close to the same?
My Audobon book shows good shape, and has the info you need, but colors VARY big time, my book the color of the Golden Chantrell is drab, but the chants i pick are anything but!!
Yes you are gonna get it bad, Im crossing my fingers it wont be as bad as Fasthunter and I have it! he he he
Lots of good info can be found here, and good people who are willing to help too!

I appreciate the quick replies! I did spore print the chestnuts and it worked out great, pretty cool for my first try. All the other mushrooms got tossed, I tend to be on the cautious side and am focusing on learning just a couple mushrooms at a time.
I tried the chestnuts this morning and they were great, the wife did not like the spongy texture part so I will most likely compromise and remove it when cooking for the both of us.
So far I am amazed at the flavors of wild vs store mushrooms.
Going back out now for an hour or two!

Fishy is rite, I brought home a pile of those Milky lactarious Volume--es, shrooms sat them on the table and had to leave, when I came home some 4 hours later OMG the entire house smelled like a fish farm!
Unreal just how much enjoyment there is to be had in WILD shroomin, not just eating, but the outdoors, the challenge of the ID, and lastly the Eating!
Got to love it yaaa!
Dark side ya say! Ya I'm there in a BIG WAY!

That one you thought might be a chant is most likely a Lactarius of some sort. There are good edible lactarius, but I don't think that's one of them. Although they aren't a true beginner's shroom, a few to investigate would be L. volemus, corrugis, hygrophorus, and deterimus. If you find any that bleed orange latex post em up. They're cool shrooms IMO cuz when you cut em they bleed milk/ latex of different colors. It makes ID'ing certain ones much easier. There are some good edibles in that family of shrooms too.
One thing I do with the spongy boletes is, especially if older, sometimes remove the pores and/ or dry em, otherwise, they can be slimy at times.
Nice finds!
