Hey guys looking for a few suggestions here on building an ice shanty.
First off, are there any good lakes around the Grand Rapids area that get a good amount of ice and good fishing? I'm from up in Gaylord where you can dang near drive vehicles out on the ice. Down south waters concern me.
Secondly, I am looking to build a shanty that will fit 3-4 guys comfortably. I'm going to build the floor out of PT 2x4's and im still thinking of what to build the sides/roof out of to keep the weight down. Any suggestions? Also, what kind of "luxuries" do you guys have? I plan to have a few deep cycle batts connected to a roof top solar pannel with lights inside, in water lights, an external light, computer fans as exhaust fans, insulation (foam blue board probably), and either a woodstove or propane heater. Im thinking of cutting plastic 55 gal drums in half and using them to help slide the shanty out on the ice. Think that will work? What am i missing??
