What way have you found to be best to catch Specks. I did catch one on a tip up on Houghton with a treble hook/ blue. Pretty nice on to. But I would like to catch a mess of them.

Small minnows or waxies after sunset on a glow jig or tiny spoon fished near submerged trees has been working for me.
Good luck!

I've found the following works for me, but a lot of your mileage will vary depending on your lake:
1) They usually hit the best right around nightfall, and tend to be in schools. If you've got a portable fish finder it's worth looking for them as they'll usually be in large schools. The trick to catching a mess of them is finding the school. Unlike a lot of the time fishing bluegills or perch, the normal trip fishing specks for me usually results in either zero fish or more than I want to clean. Very few times out fishing specks will I have one every 15-20 minutes like you can on a slow day fishing other species. Last year my father, brother, and I were landing them so fast we weren't even getting our baits to the bottom of the lake again. It was like that for about 20 minutes and then they shut off like someone had thrown a switch. In that time I think we landed upwards of 70 fish.
2) Unlike a lot of the fish you'll catch ice fishing, I've found that my best days crappie fishing are in deep water. While the gills and perch are usually in shallower water, the specks are often down 40-60 feet depending on how deep your lake is.
