View Full Version : Cleaned up on the perch

Finally hit the big'uns today. Wigglers and very small minnows seemed to be the ticket. Ended up with a nice mess of perch, biggest stetching the ruler to 12 inches with many bigger ones missed. Believe it or not, I saw one that had to go 16 in. or better. Thought it was a bass at first. What a hog !!
I could see the fish take the bait, and after setting the hook, I kept losing fish till I figured out that the tip of my hook was broke. Lesson learned.
Finished out the day with a keeper pike that nailed one minnie, then came back for the other one. 2lb test and a long game
of " work the drag" finally brought him thru the hole.
The sunset was beautiful. T'was a great day to be alive.

Nice catch Thunderhead. I was wondering if these fish may have come out of the lake that you sent me a PM on yesterday? I am hoping to get over there this weekend are you planning on fishing out there still?
Good Fishing

Man, you guys about fried my puter with all the responses. :)
I'm a bit overwhelmed.
I answered alot of PMs, but guys, I don't want to kill the fishery.
I stopped replying when I figured that that was about all she could handle, and it gets quite a bit of pressure as it is.
To the guys that didn't get a response, PLEASE, don't take it personal. I wish we could all go and catch fish forever and ever but that's not the way it works. I'm sorry if I offended anybody by not responding, I'm not selfish in the least with my spots and am always willing to help out another fisherman, but like I said, a body of water can only take so much pressure before it starts to get hurt. I hope you understand where I'm coming from.
Best of Luck and Be Safe,

Thought for a minute I was on greatb***h.com with that swiss cheese report:eek: Reminds me of radio chatter while salmon fishing on the big lake "the lure I told you about" "where I was yesterday." Good grief, just tell us where the lake is - that's the way it's supposed to work here!

:D :D LMAO
I'm picturing a little chubby kid with a fishin pole in one hand and a can of worms in the other, all red faced and blustery cause one of his buds caught a bigger fish than him.
I did what I could, and didn't have to do that. This lake isn't that big. I offered because I was asked, I wasn't going to say anything at first, but there was room for more guys and I'm not selfish. This is Michigan, lots of lakes, go find one.
To answer that last part of your post - NO
Thanks for understanding Brian. Wish I could have helped everybody, but was just too many guys for the lake to handle.
BTW, I answered on a first come first serve basis.
congratulations on your catch but if you can't disclose the location and methods then keep it to yourself. lord knows we wouldn't want people fishing on YOUR lake.

Thunderhead,
I truly do understand what you're saying about too much pressure on a lake. But let's face it....as you said yourself, fish don't always bite, and what is happening one day, likely won't be happening tommorrow. We've had this same discussion on this and other sites, both hunting and fishing ones, about giving away "secret spots". Personally, I used to be real secretive about these things. But anymore, I pretty much tell it like it is, and those of you who know my posts will agree with that. When the ducks are in, I tell people. When the perch bite, I tell people. With all due respect, all you do when you tell people they're biting like gangbusters but don't give them more details is just piss them off. Better off not reporting anything. Again, not trying to ruffle feathers, but your original post will certainly do that. Afterall, most would believe that this site is for helping others do better in their chosen pastime, whether hunting, fishing, or whatever. We're glad you had a good outing, but you haven't helped anyone by your post. Okay, I'll chill. Sorry.

Thunderhead, thats a good move on your part not to give out all of the info on the internet. I was blasted this past summer for not giving out my locations when I nailed the perch in Lake Huron. You guys have to remember that he might have posted the report for a few that know the places that he decides to fish. It is up to them to go there and get the fish. I know of too many people that will not give out the info of their special trout holes in fear of having it destroyed.

I understand. The forum says Ice Fishing. Not Ice Fishing Reports with full details disclosed.
What? I can't tell of a good day on the water without getting slammed, called a *****ty sportsman and whatever else cause I don't tell where? This is EXPECTED? I tell of a good day of fishing and I'm now OBLIGATED to tell where when and how? Where the hell does it say that? If it pi$$e$ off guys cause I caught a few fish and they didn't, well, tough.
Good Grief, I helped out the first 30 or so guys that asked me, I didn't HAVE to do that. Originally I was just relaying what a nice day on the lake it was. Sorry you guys aren't having any luck. What more do you want?
How about all you guys whining start coughing up your fishing spots?
Fishfoote- Screw you pal. I hope your waders leak, your pole breaks, and you get skunked the rest of the season.
Stop by the store on the way home, I hear cheese goes well with whine. I don't tell you where I caught a fish and now I'm a bad sporstman. Your a good sportsman? I tell you the lake will get over fished, but you don't care as long as you get what you think is your fair share and to hell with the consequences. Yeah, real great sportsman. What a dick. Grow up.
Try to do a few guys a favor and this is what happens..................

Thunderhead, I feel for ya pal, you might as well give them all a map to where you saw that big 12 pointer making his scrape line!!
Guys---Is there no joy left in a little gloating of a good day?
I learned long ago not to tell of my honey holes, unless you want alot of neighbors!
Good luck thunderhead

Good job with your catch ThunderHead!! I see not too many people are happy with you not guiding them to your location and I don't blame you. I wouldn't either. To those whiners out there, go make your own report and figure out where the bite is on your own. People will always have their "secret spots" so live with it or get off the thread.

Chill out guys. Everyone has good points here but Thunderhead sounds more than reasonable. The guys he told about his spot will tell two friends and they will tell two......and everyone will know about it anyway. I appreciated hearing that he did well. I hope the people that he shared private mail with will treat his spot with respect and not over-fish it. There is sometimes no greater satisfaction than moving away from the crowd and finding your own fish. Lets face it, we all have a few honey-holes that we don't nor should we give up to others. Find your own honey-holes and keep one or two for yourself.

Its a sticky subject, but hell, its up to him if he wants to tell or not. I'm glad someone has been doing well on the perch, i haven't. This just gives me a little more motivation to check out on a few more lakes to see if they're biting. I'm also in the next few months on a mission to fish every lake that has public access in a few counties to see if i can find a few more places to wet a line.
Trying to say that hes not a good sportsman is just ludicrous, as you don't even know the guy, and if he says that theres a good chance for overfishing, then i'm going to respect what he says. Theres a lot of lakes that get mentioned as "that lake" and "lake x" in posts to conceal their identity to only a few, prolly because these smaller fisheries can actually be damaged with a lot of people. Hell, i'm halfway concerned about chemung with how many people are out there, but so far it seems like it almost has too many bluegills, and crappie are usually a highly reproductive species.
If I end up finding that the stream on my property is abundant with trout upstream, i'm prolly not going to post the exact location except possibly to a few close friends because overfishing can kill it.
That being said, i dont care where he fished, hes not obliged to say. Also, thunderhead, you have to understand the curiosity of people, as perching has been really slow of late in many places. Please disregard any negative comments from envious people, as a lot of people talk a good game, but very few act like a true sportsman.
just my 2 cents anyways,
Steve
If the only time people could post their good fortune is when they would be willing to draw a map and post it or take everyone by the hand and lead them to the hole they were fishing, there would be but a couple of posts day. And probably not by the people complaining, either.
I bet you the people that actually post anything that would help a guy out is but a fraction compared to the people who come here for their own selfish needs .
Until all of the babies (which seems to be but a couple of guys) that are crying in their spilled milk write a book containing all of their spots to catch a fish and put it here for everyone to read, they need to get off this guy's back.
My two cents.

Thunderhead, i do understand. I have many secret spots that i never reveal, only because they're usually small lakes that can get fished out easily. If your spot is a small, little lake, i understand, but if it's a lake like mullet, or houghton, or higgins, or kent, any lake over 3-500 acres, then i don't. If 50 guys know about it, they might fish it for a little one day, they might catch some fish, but then they'll leave it, maybe try it in another year. I ahve two simple questions, i'm not trying to find out the place but, Is it small???? How small??? Is it in a populated area?????
Steve

Thunderhead did exactly the right thing here. Anybody who is flaming him publicly or by PM is dead wrong! He stated it was too small of a lake to pressure and that's all that needs to be said period. Good job Thunderhead.
