Well made my first ice trip of the season. Fished the marina(can't remember the name) by hooters in Bay City from about 11:30-5:30. Caught around 50 perch, most around 5-51/2". Keepers were 6" and up, a big one would have been 8-9", the typical perch scene this winter. Did see a nice crappie around 11" or so caught, and a couple small walleyes, as well as alot of winter killed shad, some 10-12" long!. My fish came on the usual teardrops and minnows, but I did catch a few on a small slab spoon with a minnow on a #8 hook below it. The spoon rig had several hard "hit and runs", don't know if they were small perch or small eyes'. But all in all, a gorgeous day, it was probably 42-45 degrees, and for the most part sunny, which is when the fishing is good here(if you can call it good!), and there was an awesome sunset, I wish I would have had a camera. Tight-lines, I'll be back there again on Sunday most likely. Oh, I almost forgot, the Saginaw river has very unsafe ice, there are open holes, and the ice is quite wind blown, so don't try it yet.
