Need some ideas on what you guys would like to see as prizes for an ice fishing contest(Higgins Lake Winterfest 2003-Feb 15th).

Most prizes for the adult are in the range of $100 to $50, so I'm looking for ideas that are in that range. Obviously I could go with ice fishing rods, lure combos, ice gloves, etc... But I need ideas from you guys on what YOU would like to see as prizes...I was thinking something like lanterns, GPS,..... Or would just getting gift certificates from Bass Pro, Cabelas, Jays be better, even though I would like to see some prizes.

Also for the kids division the prizes are most around $25 with some first prizes around $50. What would a kid ages 10-17 like to see as prizes? Last resort I can always get gift certificates for adult prizes but I need some good prizes for the kids.

Any and most ideas welcomed. Thanks

ps. I'll have complete prizes and information on the Winterfest in around two weeks and will post at that time. But I do know for a fact I will have over$1200 in prizes, with $450 going to the kids divisions-all kids 12 and under will get a prize(around $2) for an entered fish(one prize per child).

The kids 10 to 17 might like the remote control cars like the ones at radio shack. There's 2 ice rinks on my canal & the kids are out there all day ice racing 'em on the rink....looks like a lot of fun.

I think everybody wouldn't mind a few Cabela's gift certificate. And for that matter try calling Cabela's and Bass Pro Shops and I bet they will throw a few in for free.

I helped manage a few non profit fund raisers in the past and some business's would bend over backwards to help you out.

Radio Shack also has all their RC cars 50% off...:D I like the RC truck with its own RC boat with its own trailer for 27 bucks.

Gift Certificates from Dick's Sporting Goods would be good. Dicks has more locations throughout Michigan so it would be more accessible to more participants. I like the FRS radio idea, also.

Thanks guys, keep the ideas coming. For the kids division I really would like to try and stick with prizes related to ice fishing, fishing or outdoors if possible.

I'd say a trophy or plaque (at least for the kids) and then prizes... A trophy or plaque will last many more years than most prizes plus it will remind the winner (s) of great times had...

I have a trophy that I won 20 years ago, every now and then I wipe the dust off it but it always reminds me of the time my dad, brother and I fished an ice fishing derby. I think they probably spent less than $5 on the trophy and it still sits on the ledge next to my ice fishing gear. Can really make a youngin' feel like he has accomplished something...

Rod/reel combos, start-up kits (ice-scoops, tackle, tackle box, depth finder) possibly even an ice auger. Maybe by going to the stores and explaining what your doing and how much $$ your spending you maybe able to get a quantity discount. Don't rule out the mom-n-pops they may be really will to give decent discounts if you were going to spend enough there. Just a thought.

Show me the money ! Got to think outside of the box. Not everyone that wins a prize is a hunter, fisher or outdoor person like all of us. With cash prizes you will disappoint no one and you will not have a problem with; too big, too small, wrong color, got one, what is it ? If you can get prizes donated, great. A free night stay at a local motel or a meal at a restaurant will bring families back to the area and hopefully spend more time and money. My opinon! What ever you do, good luck. You guys are on the right track.

Do you have to be present to win your prize? If you are there may I suggest; as the winners are drawn they get to pick there prize. That way they get the best prize for them-selves.

Slowpoke,

These prizes are for a fishing contest, and not a raffle or drawing or any sort. Sorry if I confused anybody. I'm liking the idea of adding a trophy as well to the junior division(12 and under) this woudl be addition to the prize.
