I know the weather has been tough lately but let's be safe out there. I've had to cancel several trips myself lately, so I certainly understand the frustration of not being able to get out there.

I do alot of fishing out of Manistee and there are many days i wont venture out with my 22' Islander. Seems there is always a stiff breeze coming off the water. My fishing buddies like to rib me about being scared for not going out in 3 footers i tell them no i just enjoy living. Prayers going out to missing boater what a tragedy.

Damn, thats truely is a sad story, thank goodness the others made it back "ok". At the same time it is a good lesson for many. The price of admission is just too high on a day like yesterday. I cannot even fathom going out in that kind of wind! Ive fished in 6'ers and its sucks, it had to be double that offshore yesterday.

This can happen to anyone. We were on our way in on Sunday of the Salmon Splash in six to eight footers had a wave throw us and almost broach us. Know your limits if your worried then put your vests on right away. When this happen to us there was no time for anything. Please stay safe and watch your neighbor.

somedays its just not worth it? Anyone know what the exact conditions were? Assuming the boat took the spill at 5PM, I would assume if the weather was anywhere near fishasble someone else might have been out there to see them? Then again maybe not, but that seems like a common spot to fish out of Manistee

It was said they had a triple on and all the guys were at the stern of the boat!it was said they were fishing in solid 4+ waves when a larger wave came over the stern swamping the vessel and capsizing their 20ft crestliner.the life jackets were stowed in the bow the guy that drowned was the only man not able to get a jacket quick enough!!my prayers to the Aryanford family.

One of the guys is a relative to a co-worker of mine. He just got off the phone with the 39year old. His relative is still in the hospital but doing ok despite having some kidney damage and ???? (muscle deterioration under dehydrated conditions). The story my co-worker relayed was that they were in the process of coming in (maybe they were in the back of the boat bringing in lines,etc.-{this was my theory}). A wave came and the boat went straight up vertically and flipped over. He also mentioned that they "tied themselves to the motor". His relative then said that he went under into the boat to get the stowed life jackets and when he returned to the top of the boat the one guy was gone (disappeared). My co-worker wasn't sure of the timeline of things.
It's a tragedy for the one family and my prayers are with them.
I am always curious to know more detail because I try to learn from these things. I was wondering where the throttle was at the time and things like that. I guess more will come out later.
