Well, at this point, I think the Tigs are stuck with him. Hold on and hope for the best, at least until the contract expires. What good is holding onto potential talent if he can't throw for you? Maybe he could throw bags of peanuts for them?

Might be time to cut bait with this guy. Ones the Tigers are using in place of him are doing a fine job.

I don't see the need to get rid of him. He's 23 and we know what he can do when healthy. He only makes $735k a year. I only wonder what he could have been had they not rushed him.

Ok, can remove the question mark now.

My favorite quote from the story: He planned on having the surgery at some point anyway, but hoped he could put it off until season's end while pitching through any discomfort for the season's final two months.

He wanted to pitch through the pain. We've all seen how that works out - no good for no one.

Considering he never pitched as many innings in a season in the Majors as he did in the Minors I would say "rushing him" would be a bit of an overstatement.;)

Going from throwing every five days to every other probably wasn't good for him. He also never threw 100mph as a starter. He said he was comfortable in the 95-97 range. No doubt in my mind they messed his arm up by putting him in the bullpen. That and his alleged motorcycle incident.

He was touted from the beginning as a guy that threw 100+mph so I'm not sure about the 95-97 statement is all that accurate. Speaking from my own experience, throwing an inning every other day for 80 innings would definitely be less strenuous than pitching 7 innings every 5 days for a total of 150. At least it was for me. Of course I was only throwing at about 86-88mph at the time and pitched a lot less innings.

I just hope next year's season-ending surgery comes before the 4.94 ERA and 1.81 WHIP. April sounds nice.
