Ok the shrooms are growing, and so too are the BOLETES I found these today, now the rules for Boletes suck cause it eliminates all but 1 of these, its my 1st year hunting summer shrooms so I aint eating any of these any way, but Identification is KEY and this is my bast chance to know what YOU know!
That Blue staining is Prety sweet looking the Blue is immediate upon cutting, then theres the one with the YELLOW pore surface, the rules say stay away, then theres the sulius, it has a yellow stem, off yellow pore surface and does not stain. lastly is a new one for me, has a brown/orange cap, white pore surface and pealing stem with no staining and no real decernable smell, but as fresh poped as they are, i supose they will be hard to ID but it meets the rules for Boletes!
Ponder if you will what these are, Im tossing them now that I have Pictures! Sounds to me if it does not have a white pore surface leave it alone?

Hey BD
Can you get some closer shots sometime?
Nothing wrong with yellow pores according to the rules
and quite a few good edible boletes have them.
One with the peeling stem is probably a leccinum and those are called
scabers on the stem and are one of the keys to them.
(aka..scaber stalks)

The one that blued instantly is probably the blueing bolete
(Gyroporus cyanescens var. violaceotinctus )
which is a cousin of the chestnut bolete and is edible if it is.
And it's very cool just to see the instant blueing effect.

It takes awhile for it to all sink in, and as FH mentioned read up
as much as you can.
The first year for me was pretty confusing, but it all starts making a little
sense after awhile and with always something new to learn every year.
But the most important thing to remember,,,
Berrys are always better than any shroom on the planet.:)

Carrying my camera in the woods did it tuff! I knelt down to pick a chant and I heard it happen, "crack" it was the screne OMG so I cant adjust the settings and really am just pointing and shooting lol
Till I buy a new camera close ups will be tuff, till then I'll do the best i can!
A suprize to me was finding a 1/2 dozen puffballs ALREADY, this mid summer FALL weather is making things happen!
Ok i did say it, and no those boletes are ORANGE pored not yellow, but as they dry they seem to be turning yellow, I have been finding lots of fresh boletes lately, Those silius seem tasty, found a few fresh ones and did a taste test, pealed the skin of the top and took a small chunk of the white meat, chewed it a little and spit it out, and ya Id say another year I may try these! Untill then im happy with the Chants, Cinnabar's, Oysters, Morels and puffballs, oh and that Chicken was tasty, even if it was a little on the OLD side!

Bassdisaster you are an addict like me and a few others on here.:D. However, Mike was right and you know better anyways, don't eat them until you feel intimate with what you are looking for. I still pass, up tons of shrooms, but eat others wouldn't as well. It's ONLY because I feel COMPLETELY comfortable with them. However, posting pics, asking questions, ect is AWESOME!!. (BTW ya gotta knack for it;).....Finding.......you can figure out the riddle. That's what I love and do everyday.) If ya post pics and try to ID and end up wrong....NOT a prob either. I do it too. That one blue bruiser sure looks like one of the two blue bruiser I DO want to eat, but the pics are NOT close enough and the description on everything else isn't there. DON'T EAT IT!!!! I just got excited at a glance:lol:. I've found deadly poisonous ones, and ones that would make me sick,at a glance today too. Don't trust those ID'S. I pitched them in an instant!
BTW...Chickens are good and puffballs..............I hate them they are tofu to me....lol!!!I've heard they can carry the flavor though........Just like tofu...lol!.....Also, when in doubt pitch it and remember where you found it. That's how I'm hitting my spots now. If ya pitch it and find out it's a possible ID in the future. Hit it up the next year. Paying off for me now.

Today I found a spot with about 40 Suillus brevipes/Boletes poping still in button form, I would really like to try these, please correct me if im wrong, but as I read it if I peal the skin's of the top, and scrape off the pores these are tasty?

Hi BD
Actually only the slime layer on the cap will cause you problems(ibs)
but I like to remove the pores too if they aren't real tight since
the texture will be quite mushy imo.
The pores on the ones in the picture look tight and I'd probably leave them on.
I just use a veggie brush on the cap while holding them under cold water
to remove the slime layer.
I've found them if I leave them in the fridge overnight the pores
usually just peel right off too.
Suillus are a love/hate shroom like puffballs and shaggys,
some love them, some hate them.
Just try 1 or 2 and see if you like them first and aren't
allergic too them.
Personally I like brevipes, but a few others I'll pass on.
Re-read post #3.
That was a quick year. lol
