Howdy-
First, I KNOW there is a recipe board- I've already checked it. My problem is that most of the posts require an oven; at our deer camp all cooking is done on either a camp stove or a camp fire. I doo own a Dutch oven, but have never experimented w/it. If anyone can add some posts with suitable 'primitive' cooking directions I'd be very greatful. We've already run the gamut of stews, soups, steaks, chops, roasts, etc. and I'd like to come up with something a bit different or special for my meal night this year....By the way, I still have plenty of venison in the freezer!
Thanks in advance,

PrtyMolusk,

Check out the postings "A New (Old) Way to Cook Venison" posted 7/23/00, "It's Friday. Let's cook at the fire pit", also posted on 7/23/00, and "Cindy Lang's DamnGood Dutch Oven Deer Roast", posted 8/21/00. All three will give you a good starting place - partucularly if you take a couple of hours and build a rock-lined fire pit for use with your Dutch Oven.

If you are interested, I have several recipe's that call for using a given number of characoal briquets with a Dutch Oven to obtain a particular cooking temperature. I have used this technique, but find the rock-lined fire pit much more useful and fun to use.

Also, using coals from your campfire as a heat source under your Dutch Oven has many possibilities.

First, experiment at home with some recipe's before going to deer camp. Then, let me know if you have more questions.
