Concealed weapons proposal faces ‘high noon’ vote (http://cnnwire.blogs.cnn.com/2009/07/22/concealed-weapons-proposal-faces-high-noon-vote/)

Posted: 10:13 AM ET
WASHINGTON (CNN) — The Senate is due to vote at “high noon” Wednesday on a controversial proposal to allow people to carry concealed weapons from state to state.
The measure, which has split Democrats, would require each of the 48 states that currently allow concealed firearms to honor permits issued in other states.
Supporters of the measure argue it would help deter criminals; opponents claim it would endanger innocent people by effectively forcing most of the country to conform to regulations in states with the loosest gun ownership standards.
Sen. John Barrasso, a Wyoming Republican who is a co-sponsor of the amendment, argued Wednesday that gun licenses should apply across state lines, like driver’s licenses.

The vote was 58-39 . Two votes short of the 60 needed to approve the bill.

It is also another reason not to vote for your Senator if they didn't vote for it.

I don't know how Levin and Stabinow voted on it. But I wouldn't vote for either one of them anyhowhttp://i275.photobucket.com/albums/jj317/chuckgrmi/DirtKicker.gif

I am a recent purchaser of my first pistol. Would like to get CCW/CPL license. Who has a decent program in or around northern Monroe county and what should I expect to pay?

I know absolutely nothing about the laws and would like to get good info. Crap, I have owned the gun for 3 months and haven't fired it due to lack of ammo.

Two Senators from the Michigan who did not vote for it.

Does that include Michigan which is a state where its entire Senate representation voted NO on this??

It is also another reason not to vote for your Senator if they didn't vote for it.
Take the time to send both of them a short letter telling them how disappointed you are with their vote. Put a stamp on it and drop it in the mail. That effort and 44 cents will say more to them than a hastily typed up eMail message.

This is NOT about the few states that do not honor your Michigan CPL/CCW. If it was a few states then this piece of legislation would have passed.

It is about the numerous states that DO honor your CPL/CCW whose senators, and that includes the two from Michigan, that did not support this legislation.

IOW, why are you tearing on some states when your own people tore you down?? Take the fight right into your living room instead of placing the blame somewhere else. Our own senators did not support you or me or any of the rest of us.

I understand what you are saying. My comment about not visiting the states that do not allow me or its own citizens to carry,is my way of "fighting back" at the states where I have no voice at the voting booth.I'll spend my money in states that honor my 2nd amendment rights.
