I am planning to take my 4 Boys on a hunting trip. They are ages 18, 17, 5, and 6 months, now. So, I have a lot of time to plan. There are so many options, and I am having a hard time deciding what to hunt and where.

I will make the trip as soon as the baby has reached legal age (depending on where we hunt). So, I assume it will be 10-12 years from now. I'm not rich, but cost is not my primary concern. I expect I will have saved up some pennies between now and then.

I originally planned an Elk hunt in the West. Then, I thought maybe a Caribou hunt in CA. Then, I thought a bird hunt in Argentina. I was thinking that we could go during Xmas vacation. Then, I thought a Spring Bear Hunt in Manitoba. You get the idea. I'm at a loss. Any recommendations?

I had my first son graduate last year from high school and I took him on a hunt that he wanted to do. We went to Quebec bear hunting and had a blast. It was his choice of what he wanted to pursue, and it was my graduation present to him. It was a fun trip and my son had his best friend go along with his dad, a teacher that both boys had in high school, and a good friend of mine went along. Instead of waiting so long to do it all together, maybe do what I did and do it as they graduate high school and before they head off to college? Just a thought. :)
My next boy graduates in 2 years and I have begun saving (god help me). He has mentioned an out West hunt for Elk so we will wait and see what happens. I may be calling on ya Hunterhawk!

Caribou hunt in Quebec.

Basically guarenteed for everyone to tag out and can be hunted with all of you in a group.

if you wait until the older boys are around 30, they may well not have the time to spare. careers and famililes of their own become a priority. and maybe the younger ones will have other interests when they mature.

i'd get it when the getting is good.

I hear ya on the graduation idea. My oldest graduated last month. The next one is next June.

I spend a lot of time with the Boys separately, and together on different hunts. The oldest Boy likes action and gun hunting. He prefers upland birds and Duck hunting, but I think he would love an action packed big game hunt. The 17 y/0 is the bow hunter and likes it all. My 5 y/0 (Hunter) will probably be an all around outdoorsman. Who knows about the baby...

I agree that sooner is better, but it's a dream of mine to take all of them on a great hunt. I want to do it as soon as possible, so they don't have to wheel me out there:lol:. The only limiting factor is minimum hunting age, and probably $$, if I were to try to do it sooner than 2-3 years from now.

We will definitely have several more hunts together and separately between now, and then. In fact, I expect a really nice MI UP bear hunt in the near future.

Thanks all & I appreciate your suggestions!

Winter caribou hunt in Quebec, the adventure getting there is worth the trip alone(almost) even tho its a 30+/- hour drive, two tracts, ice roads, blizzards, packing in gas for lack of convenient gas stations, about 1,200-1,500 for the outfitter(self guided), tags about 400 if I remember right, includes two tags each, plus you can hunt tarmigan(extra 60), meals included, warm beds, showers, see tons of animals includiung arctic fox, otters, saw two wolves on my trip including what I am positive was the alpha male, just a giant, and the herd of bou was insanely incrediable, 10's of thousands of animals...no draws for tags is the best part i think. Been there once and would/will do it again. Good luck

I agree with whoever said "get while the getting is good". Kids priorities change so enjoy your hunting close to home while you have their interest. Meanwhile, start a fund just in case you are lucky enough to have them all together for a hunt of a lifetime someday. Let the kids know about the fund and encourage them to contribute something to it so they become stakeholders and will plan their lives around making the trip together.

Getting all four will be a real crapshoot so the more you involve the kids in the decision, the better your odd of full participation.
