Sunday morning I fished a run on the north branch I don't think I've gone to in ten years. In that time it must have received some of those trees dropped by helicopter. Eight or ten of what looked like large oaks jutted from alternating sides of the river along the stretch, and what a difference it made! More gravel visible, a swifter current, and generally more contours in what had been a flat, shallow, basinlike stretch (albeit one full of brook trout). The fishing hadn't changed a great deal--lots of small brook trout during a nice trico hatch--though it would be interesting to go there for some of the hatches that bring out larger fish, or to rip a streamer along those trees on a cloudy day.
