Looking for a suggestions:

We do a lot of paddeling. (gonna hit St. John's Marsh today) It is usually a family affair, but more recently my two youngest (7 and 2) have wanted to be with G/ma or a friend while we float. After years of canoeing all over Michigan we bought my 10 yo an Old Town Dirigo. Little did I know that both myself and my wife would absolutely LOVE the kayak. We both agree that we'd rather kayak than canoe. Trying to buy a used yak is like trying to win the lottery. They come up on CL but are gone a heartbeat.

Now my delima....

Should we sell/trade our 17' Grumman flat back with an Evenrude 2.5 hp gas motor to get two Kayaks ... OR ... should we hold off, save a little bit, keep the canoe and then buy 2 kayaks? I know its a personal decision, but my fear is that once we get the yaks, the canoe will never be used. My wife wants to keep the canoe...it certainly has its benefits and a TON of memories.

Any thoughts?

Personally, kayaks kick a canoes butt in every aspect except cargo. If the majority of trips are going to be day trips than lose the canoe. The biggest hassle is going to be in transporting 5 kayaks down the road in the near future. One day you will wish you still had that canoe, but it will only be for that one day out of hundreds. ;)

Ray, I can't disagree with anything you've said...especially about the kick butt issue. The advantage of this canoe though is the motor! We've already thought abt the transportation issue. In 5 years we'll have 5 paddlers...:yikes:! I've had half an eye out for a kayak trailer!
