I swear... I like to think I'm a relatively bright guy. This will be my third year of hunting whitetail and I have been trying to find what seems to be easy information (IE- baiting ban info, license information, etc) off the DNR website. Looking for general information is a nightmare on that website.

What's up with it not being user friendly? It just seems to be a jumbled together and confusing.

I don't think I would have known about the baiting ban last year if it wasn't for this forum. I'm a city guy and not a lot of people talk about hunting. By looking at the DNR site, I wouldn't even known the law existed. Especially if DNR officers are actually fining, arresting, or taking away hunting privileges for something like baiting. I wouldn't have had a clue.

thats only because alot of other states have smaller hunting areas/game managment units, also a quite different season structure than michigan.if your talkin out west ,alot more species to manage.that equals much more complex rules.

the MDNR website is a joke.
this website is way more user friendly than MDNR.
stupid government!

I have trouble navigating the MDNR website. I can usually find what I am looking for, but it takes me a few tries. I think everythign is there, just difficult to find which banner it is under. As far as liscence info and such, that is easy enough, and season dates, and also the hunting guides. I guess that is the most important info.. :D

Does anyone else have issues opening the PDF files? I used to like to read the Bi Weekly CO reports but I cannot open those any longer.

I have no problems opening them.

It isn't the easiest site, but not that bad IMHO..

Here...found this in 2 clicks from the MDNR homepage.

http://www.michigan.gov/dnr/0,1607,7-153-10366_37141_37705---,00.html

I also found this in 2 clicks from the homepage:

http://www.mdnr-elicense.com/common/popups/popframe.asp?url=licenses.asp

Hope that helps!!

I challenge you to find the link to the to the DNR's governing body, the Natural Resources Commission (NRC) on the DNR homepage. It's there, but it pretty small.

This one?

Fromthe DNR homepage, click on Commissions on the list on the left, then on NRC on the list on the left.

Less than 10 seconds...one click from the homepage.

You can also click on it in the RSS feeds on the right hand column.

I was told that a former writer from the Grand Rapids Press had moved on to other things one of which was to redesign the MDNR's website, but due to financial contraints that project is on hold. Pinefarm/Bob: Do you have any info on this I believe it was Bob G.

I agree that the website is confusing to use, but with no problems opening PDF's at least on that website.

I have do have a couple of problems with the website. The flow and navigation are fine...however, the rss feeds on the right need to be much larger text if not more so than the left hand menu. The RSS feeds have the most recent news concerning the DNR. Also, there is no MDNR search function. The search in the upper right corner is for the entire MI Government database. This makes searching for something very difficult.

I have had no problems with the PDF's.

Yes Whit, Bob Gwizdz is working in that capacity for the Dep, and yes to budget constraints. He also works on the press releases etc.
