I was invited to go to a Safari Club dinner in Janruary (18 th) by a guy I work with. He has a VIP table for 10 that he won in a auction last year. Are these dinners fun? I have been to some DU banquets in the past and enjoyed them very much. It is like $60 for me to go (steep), but I hear the dinner is excellent and there raffles are great. I would be interested in hearing from anyone who has gone to one. Good or Bad

Howdy, KEN C-

Attended one last year, along with NEMichsportsman, sponsered by the SE Bowhunter chapter. We were invited by Neal, who, along with his family is big into SCI.

We had a ball! Raffles up the ying-yang, great food, cool stuff everywhere. Opportunity to join SCI at deep discounts ($25.00 as I recall)....

Bring extra cash for bar and the many raffles. This one had a table FULL of guns and bows (probably 80 ~ 100 items) that were raffled, plus a board with 110 spots. As soon as it is filled, a winning square is chosen, winner chooses something from the table, and board is filled up again. This continued throughout the evening.....

Really fantastic prices on ranch hunts and safaris; everything from trout expeditions to exotics in their native lands, and none went for it's suggested value.

The $60.00 spent will be well worth the evening's entertainment!

You'll enjoy it. The food is always fabulous and usually includes a lot of game. Just remember it is a fund raiser, SCI does a lot of work to help preserve our hunting rights, for conservation and reintroduction of game animals. I belong to the Flint chapter.

All of the Michigan chapters have nice banquets and the auctions and raffles are fun. I won a Savage .300 WinMag at the Detroit fund raiser last year.

FYI- I had mentioned it here before, but there is a luncheon on Saturday the 18th at the Loon River Cafe where you can meet some of the regulars and outfitters that will be attending the function. It just costs the price of your own lunch.

I highly recommend attending the dinner.

You can't go wrong at any of the SCI banquets. Don't forget that earlier in the day they will be putting on FREE seminars, that are directed for kids including, Birds of Prey, Sensory safari, and a reptile exhibit. More info at:

Hope to see you all there!!!

Very good food. There's usually some game there that you probably haven't eaten before. Had my first sample of rattlesnake at one dinner years ago.

It does'nt look like I'll be attending the dinner, but I will be there earlier in the day for the FREE "Wildlife Upclose" Program. For those who missed this last year in is well worth the experiance for the whole family. From 9:00am to 3:00pm you may visit the "sensory Safari", which is a hands on learning experiance involving full mounted amimals, skins, pelts, etc. You may also visit the "Reptiles & More" exhibit to learn about our scaley friends.

There will also be Three "Birds of prey" shows at 9am,10:30am, & 12:30pm. Joe Rogers from the Wildlife Recovery Association, will give you and the kids an eye to eye adventure, with close-up encounters with eagles, owls, hawks and buzzards.

The Exhibitors booths will also be available if anyone is interested in a guides hunting trip, wildlife art, etc.

Hope to see you there.....I'll be there between 10am & 12:00 noon
