Did a little spearfishing today, as the future inlaws requested some carp for the tomatoes...

10 minutes is all it took to fill my quota of 3...and get freezing cold:xzicon_sm

For those that havent spearfished.....DO IT! It blows bowfishing out of the water, and you'd be amazed at the things you see and behaviors one can observe when the fish are relaxed (Bass tend to be the most curious, and I frequently have absolute brutes swim up to me and wonder what the heck i'm doing).

PS...If you plan on shooting any carp over 15 lbs...HIT THEM IN THE HEAD or look out! You're in for a cluster **** and a thrashing carp attached to a spear and only 6 foot of line is a good way to get stabbed!

Sorry about the crappy pics....Cell phone.

Dogfish are the scariest to shoot...Even if you put a spear through their brain, they still flail them teeth around like crazy!

out of curiosity, how much does a decent spear gun cost?

I've got a cheap model (JBL Carbine 38) which has an effective range of about 9 feet. Cost me less than 80 bucks to my door from ebay. Make sure to get some comfortable fins and a decient mask too. High dollar snorkels really aren't necessary IMO.
