Hello to all,

My family ( wife and 2 kids ) will be camping up at Clear Lake in a couple of weeks. I thought i read some where that there was trout in the lake. I would like to try to target trout while there but i lack the deep water experience.

Any body have any experience with trout fishing on Clear Lake?

I have tried a couple of lakes down near me that are said to have trout ( 1 is still stocked and the other hasnt been stocked in about 7 or 8 years). I do not believe i am hitting the right depth, maybe my timing is off as well. Really i am begining to question whether i have the patience for it lol .

Any tips for Clear Lake would be greatly appreciated.

thank you

vonnie

All I can say about the trout is, find a way to get your bait deep. We tried with no luck last year, mostly because of our tactics. Couldn't find them either though.

Right off the beach there is an water intake that the smaller fish congregate around.(I assume you are staying at the park). Caught probably 100 rock bass and perch over a few days just sitting on top of the pipe with a kayak. Few bass in the general vicinity of the beach too.

sorry I can't help with the trout though...

i appreciate your input. Thank you very much. Its good to know there is a fall back plan if i cant find the trout.

if all else fails, hook, crawler and bobber (thats my backup plan any way). the kids would like that better than the hours of hunting and waiting any way.

Yeah, we are staying at the park for sure. Looking forward to a nice relaxing time.

Clear Lake has some great Splake fishing. During the day, try trolling deep with either cowbells/silver flatfish or dodger/small spoon combo. most of the ones i have caught came at night though with the old-fashioned lantern-and-worm trout tactics everyone's grandfather used. Someone also told me of some brook trout stockings in recent years, but don't quote me on that.

Yeah that's sweet that they stocked brookies in there. We clobber the splake jigging spoons and trolling cowbells with spin-n-glows during the daytime. There's some monsters in there.

I appreciate all your tips! thanks a lot.

maybe the most effective for me will be fishing at night. i will only have a 12 foot row boat (with a small motor ). i will attempt as much as i can.

hopefully with a good report
