A little more about Brushaber, Like I said I saw him over the next years, He some times wrote tickets , when he did write one it was for out of season mostly or over the Limit and it was obvious the people knew it, after he left the people that he gave tickets to never bad mouthed him after he was out of ear shot, it was the way he carried himself by his tone of voice and never making people feel he was looking down on them. those were hard times for a lot of people in 1957 thru 1961, If he had given my brother one he would have had to go to jail because we had no money and no chance to get a job at our age.
For engsetter, that was the lesson that I learned from Carl, the written law doesn't all ways have to be enforced to the letter of the law. He made me a better man in my work, sent a lot of people to prison and they would call me after they got out or stop in to the station because of Brushabers lessons in my youth. I had about 10 that I know of that were either going to be dead or in prison for the rest of their lives and they turned around because of the compassion Brushaber had shown in 1957 effected the way I carried myself in that 15 or so minutes in 1957.
I have a story of a poor family of 7 kids and a mother and grand mother living in the projects and how one turned from drugs and robbery to being a decent person but I don't know If these types of story's are appropriate for this board, I think is pertinent because it shows how a Game warden effected hundreds of people lives thru his treatment of people in his work. I will have to ask the moderator Splitshot if it would be all right
Ypsi Fly, The lake and river hasn't changed at all, there were no houses or apartments any where of course, the best fishing spots are nearly the same as 1950, Before the story of Carl in 1957 Heaven to a me at 10 to 12 was launching a 14 foot steel boat with a 5 hp engine from the back of a 41 chevy pick up at 4:00 am with my uncle and another (not the one in the story) older brother and motoring to the big island to fish for small mouth bass on Ford Lake, it was like a dream listening to the humming sound of the 5 horse pushing the boat with me setting in the front watching the shore line stream by on a clear night and a light fog rising on the water. We would bait up with live crawfish and set the reel clickers on and place them on a forked stick, I will never forget the sound of the old casting reels made in the dark when a small mouth grabbed the bait and took off, it was like ZZZZZZZZZZZZZ. I will never forget that sound.
I have run the full circle now, moved to Fl for a year and caught fish bigger than me, hated the heat and moved back last year, Now me and 2 old friends go to lake Erie and drown Minnows and lie about who caught the most and the biggest fish. The Guy at Boles harbor that takes a fish count for the DNR commented on how he thought that it would be fun to go out fishing with us because we seem to be having so much fun , He is right, I forgot how much fun catching 2 Perch at once and no bigger than 9 inch's could be. Like the beer commercial says **it doesn't get any better than this ***. thinking about naming my boat **193 year's** that's the age of myself and my two friends, save you some trouble, 193 year's divided by 3 is 64.33 years
