This derby goes by weight or length?

heinie

It will most likely be a length tournament, I would guess it would be a 52" minimum. MRYMAR, I bet there will be 71 boats.

This derby goes by weight or length?

Starting length is 52”. No ties. First longest fish in will be awarded the highest position available. Any remaining fish will fill the next best position. If no 3rd place fish is entered, 1st and 2nd Place winners will split 3rd place prize money. If no 2nd and 3rd place fish is entered 1st place will receive all prize money. If no fish are entered their will be a drawing at the weigh-in at Gino Surf. All three places will be awarded

What is the Calcutta money for?

Can I enter and be eligible for the grand prize without entering the Calcutta?

Also if you decide not to enter this tournament can you still show up for the Captains meeting to score on some of those awesome lures by the locals? :fish2:

Anyone, Anyone.

I will take a stab at it, but I am not associated with the tournament.

What is the Calcutta money for?

Calcutta is just another way to increase the purse of the tournament. Just another way to bet on yourself. I know that in some tournaments, that they will set a deadline at the captains meeting where the captain has so long to buy his own boat (say 9pm); if he does not buy it, then they will open it up to the public and the public can buy it. I do not know if they will be doing this at this tournament.

Can I enter and be eligible for the grand prize without entering the Calcutta?

I believe that the prizes that are listed above, assume that the contestant had paid both entry and calcutta.

I believe based on 50 boats paying both entry and calcutta, $500, you have a tournament purse of $25,000. It looks like 60% is for first, 30% is for second, and 10% for third.

I believe that if you just paid the $300 entry, then you would be entitled to a portion (depending on what place you get; 60%, 30%, 10%) of the $300 entry pot.

Also if you decide not to enter this tournament can you still show up for the Captains meeting to score on some of those awesome lures by the locals? :fish2:

I would assume that they would like people at the captains meeting, contestants or not. The way they are paying for the event is with raffle prizes; I would assume the raffles would be open public raffles to try and increase money.

I hope my answers are right, as I am not associated with this tournament, but I did just stay at a holiday inn express....:corkysm55

Anyone, Anyone.

It is not mandatory to enter the calcutta in most tournaments. However, if you don't enter, and you pull the biggest fish, you're gonna kick yourself!

10 Calcutta tickets will be issued per boat ($20.00 per ticket). The captain has first choice on how many tickets he wants to buy at the time he signs his boat up for the tournament. After the rules and regulations presentation, all remaining tickets that are not purchased by the captains will be available for anyone to purchase. The tournament board will display how many Calcutta tickets are available per boat.

If I only pay the Entry Fee and land the biggest fish to win the tourney then I would get a percentage of the total amount of only the Entry Fee money and none of the Calcutta?
Example:
Let’s say 70 boats signed up for the tourney.
70anglers x $300 Entry Fee = $21,000.00
Someone lands the only 52” fish for the tourney but did not enter Calcutta; he would win all of the $21,000.00?
Thanks in advance for putting up with my ignorance.
Bill

No - you would only win the pot for the entry money you paid to enter.

Why would they pay you winnings, for a side bet you were not in????

If no one in the calcutta entered a fish, then the organizers would have to either refund the money to those who paid... OR.... raffle the money, in a drawing, which only includes the people who paid the calcutta.. and you didnt... so you be OUT!

Scott,

If you read my post I never mentioned anything about paying the Calcuta fee only the $300 dollar entry fee, but thanks for the response anyways!

What it comes down to is my tight ass crew can only come up with the money for the entry fee.

Thanks

These numbers that are being posted must estimates or a guess. It was my understanding you can't sign up untill the meeting this friday at gino's surf. If there is around 60-80 boats then that is one hell of a pay out for first place.

Hooked-Up
07-21-2009, 11:37 AM
Well... that's alot of boats, Hot Rod's Big Dog durning good times was like 60 -70 boats. So far our MOMC torneys are down numbers and those cost you nothing other than your membership, not $400/$500 to enter. If they get that many with this economy that would be terrific I hope they do.:):)

woody95
07-21-2009, 11:56 AM
but MOMC tourney's are club payouts, just a fraction of the big money tourneys. Mike is setting a great payout ratio for this tourney. It should be the best showing for the year considering he is paying out a greater % then any of the other big money tourney's.

and I have witnessed 15 cases of beer on Passin Gas. :corkysm55 Adam you sure put on a good show!

Just a heads up fella's, we are restocking the BP with St.Clair hounds in the AM. There's a few firetigers in this batch and it may be the last for a little while as our supplier is out of stock. Also she has a selection of Woody baits (not woody95). I'm sure most of you are familiar with the woody's. If not, they are the choice of lure on the other side of the pond. The BP is the only supplier on this side for the time being.

Sorry for hijacking! Good luck to all, I'm sure a moster is going to win this one. 15k first place should make for some interesting competition...

Thanks for the great tourney guys, nice show.

Thanks Heinie for letting me jump aboard when I was down and out with no crew. 25 for 35 is not bad, but we needed some luck for a pig. 50" just didn't cut it.

first place landed a 52 1/4 I think. 2nd tied, but wieghed in 2nd. 3rd was 51 1/2...

I think that's how it went.

I heard a 54 was caught 15 minutes after the weigh master closed, bad break.

Some of the info i herd was that the fish that was caught 15 mins after the scales closed was they did have richard weigh it for the year end for the momc. It was 54 1/4 and it only weighed 31 pounds still a real nice fish but man what a bummer catching a 22,000 dollar fish 15mins after the scale close's. I guess that's how muskie fishing goes.

Contender

Yes - Richard did weigh and measure the fish for the "AM I HAPPY" crew.

It was....
54 1/2"
33.40 lbs

For those of us who did not know this rule while in Canadian water, if you are not on the deck manning your rods it is a ticket. Example: 5 licnesed people on the boat, 10 rods out, one guy taking a nap, violation, seize 4 rods and a $180.00 fine.

So if you have kids on the boat, they decide to take a nap, pull their rods or pay the loot. Now this is a tough one to swallow, but it is in their rules, somewhere!
