I thought that I would get the ball rolling considering the Michigan Sportsman Outing 2. Last year all that attended had a BLAST!!! I am hoping that we can get it together again this summer! Durand is my choice again, they had everything and the people there went out of their way to make us feel welcome. One gentlemen in particular supplied my wife with shells as well as use of his Beretta 12 guage. now she is hooked and it is due to all that were there. Please post if you are interested in attending and whatever else you think we need to know!

How about the 11th? So as to let Steve be there..... The sooner we get the date set the better. The date doesnt really matter to me so go ahead and make some suggestions and we will go from there. Lets make this happen again!!

I'd like to attend; couldn't make it last year......was originally on call, but then my emergency gall bladder surgery got in the way. My call schedule comes out relatively early; the sooner I have a date, the better the chance I'll have on making it. Keep me posted!

Count Ruth and I in. We won't miss it if it is at all possible to be there. We will most likely be camping at Walnut hills again.

I'm new to this form but by your Aug. outing I take it there aren't many salmon fishermen here. This is the time of the year to fill the smokers. After Labor Day to Sept 14 is down time for these kinda things.

Now that the Cabelas Outing is on, I thought that I would keep the summer outing on top of the post. I am hoping that some more people will start to give their input.

Trout, and all. Unless someone did it on their own we did not pay the club directly last year. We gave a nice gift for door prize, and that was all that had been planned in advance. I felt a bit sheepish afterward for it but we did increase their normal intake for Trap and Skeet by quite a bit and cleaned up really well after ourselves so they had no extra work or cost created by us. I think a 5 or 10 percent share would be appropriate. If wee took in only $100 we would still be able give them a portion, and still have a door prize and some event prizes. I don't want to coordinate this year, but am willing to provide suggestions or advice if asked. I will rotate back into a coordinator's spot in the future perhaps. This year I just want to show up and enjoy.

As for not knowing how to shoot clays, show up and you will learn!! I had never shot them and neither had my wife. That all changed last summer, I think that she had more fun than I did. I think that offering the club some money is a good idea, if they will take it. I know that there were offers made during the event and no one would take the money. First, lets get a date set and go from there.

I'm only a little lost, but I think I haven't seen a final on the date. Was it the 11th of august? Thats the last one I knew of. PLEASEE let us all know. Some of the summers reservation desks are opening in a few days, to set up for the premier campsites.

Sarge, you will be there no matter when it is :) Hang in there, we will hopefully have a date soon. you better start practicing your shooting, especially the long range shots, as I have been practicing a little lately...... Look forward to seeing you all this summer!!

Well, Hunter, I am now a member of a club here in Lansing, so I'll be getting practice too. I will be shooting factory loads, but that shouldn't cost me too much in points. (ahem) So you might just as well carve my name on the prize right now.

HE HE.

P.S.

Some guys may bring multi thousand dollar target rifles and bench vise's. If that happens maybe we should have separate classes of shooters. Otherwise, if they are all average hunting rifles and the only difference is factory or hand loads, we factory guys will just have to be that much steadier. Unless, of course, you want to shoot in a different class than me??????????? To save face that is!!!!!!!

OK Sarge, the gauntlet has been let loose!! I am not concerned with winning the whole thing, just beating you :) hehe Win or lose, I love just being out there shooting away. Have you been skeet shootin much?

Sarge
03-02-2001, 10:09 AM
Only once at an official trap range and once with hunting friends with a personal thrower. I did well both times. I will be shooting trap most thursdays beginning in the middle of april though this year. I want to gain some expertise so I can try sporting clays, boy that sounds like the best shooting fun I can think of.

i am hoping to get into reloading shot shells so that I can do more skeet and trap shooting. it sure was a lot of fun last summer!! I think that Jen would really like to get into it again!

Sarge

I know you like to reload and it surely helps with rifles. I haven't read how much it helps with shotshells but I hear it can't save money for them. I buy my trap ammo at walmart. Winchester packages 4 boxes of 25 universal shotshells in a single pack for $17.00 which is very reasonable. If I ever get into competition, in either rifle or shotgun shooting I'll certainly reload. Right now the initial outlay is prohibitive just because I keep finding accessories to the hunting experience to absorb all that extra cash.

With me hunting deer and turkey and now with Ruth also hunting turkey with me, we really use up a lot of my personal allowance. Yes, allowance, I never actually grew up so if I don't keep myself on an allowance we'd be poor. Been there, done that, don't want to anymore.

Tell Jen Ruth and I both say HI and we're looking forward to seeing you both again this summer. I posted a thought to Bowdad, about maybe getting together at Durand just for a trap shoot some Saturday after warm weather starts. He thought it would be fun. Maybe you and Jen could make it too. Ruth and I are taking a site in Walnut hills for a month this summer so if you are interested we can pick a Saturday between June 15 and July 15 and go for it. This applies to Trout and Cindy or anyone else that would like a Saturday trap shoot at Durand.

Thanks Trout,

What do you think of a Trap shoot for whomever wants, maybe some Saturday in late june early july. Not a site sponsored outing just a fun shoot. Maybe someone can teach me something about skeet. I've tried trap and love it, never tried skeet and can't wait to get a look at sporting clays. It looks like bowdad and Hunter & Jen want to try it. I think Stalker would join up if he hasn't got other plans, and if my hunting bud "the sniper" can get the day off he and his wife would enjoy it too.

Lets keep some April saturday's open and see what shakes.

Actually, I was thinking about June-July timeframe, but if I can break away, sooner is indeed better. I've been pretty intense into the hunting scene this year. Ruth has consented to go and hunt turkeys this season, so I spent a few weeks getting her a shotgun and then, we went to the show, and I have tried to hold her off on our August vacation reservations waiting to see when the outing is. The result of all of that is that she's feeling a bit of shooting/hunting overload. I know how much she loves the outdoors and how excited she got last fall watching me turkey hunt so I want to be really careful about overloading her and undoing all the preparation. If she likes the acutal gun hunt as well as I think, we'll have established yet another thing that we love doing together. I don't want to take a chance on messing that up.

I said all of that to say, if you guys all pick a spring saturday, and I can go without having to take time away from something she has planned, (which I seldom know in advance) then by all means spring is great. As totally wonderful as she is, she is still a wife and prone to wife habits like making plans that I should know of by some kind of instinct.
