I shoot out of a luxurious 1973 12 foot rowboat, with a small platform built on it. She's not the best bowfishing rig, but tons of fish have succomed to her.

Anyways, I'm kinda sick of holding spots at night, and was looking to supply some halogens with a generator.

My question is, how big of a generator do you guys have on your rig?

How many lights can I expect to run off a 1000W generator?

I'm not going to spend 500 bucks on a 4 stroke Honda either. A cheapo 1000 W (If it'll power the light I need) won't be too loud and spook fish will it?

Thanks in advance!

OK first things first.. would have to be REALLY lucky to find a honda for 500 bucks  Try $1,000 to $3000 brand new.

Second the amount of power you will need is based off how many lights you want to run. I.E. i have 6 lights totaling 1500 watts.. i run a 2500 watt Honda and its plenty. With my 2500watt genny i wouldnt want to push it much over 2000watts of lights so in your case a 1000 watt Genny would handle 2, 300 watt halogens.. not a lot. i would look for a 2- 3000 watt genny and that would be sufficient enough.

(((side note: halogens typically come in either 500 watts or 300 watts.. but they can be interchanged so if you buy 500's a 300watt bulb will work in them, vise versa. Run the 300's!!! they put out plent of light and take up less juice!!)))

here is a link to the Halogens i use, the cheapest around and they produce some GREAT light. and this web site also has some great deals on other lighting too if you decide to go to a more expensive light in the future... I.E. High Pressure Sodium (HPS) lights... which i am switching over too now.

Also, you will need to come up with your own mounting system for these lights, not hard, but just something to think about.

I hope this helps! :)
