for the past month or so my wife and i have been replacing bird feeders left and right. after a few plastic sets of bird feeders i told my wife , "they dont makem like they used to".....then i started to think, we might have a problem with a bear or 2. her father had made this heavy duty bird feeders for us and that didnt last long. a couple weeks ago we stopped feeding the birds and all the trouble had stopped, i never seen any bear tracks or any other sign. so today my duty was to head out back and fix/clean all the bird feeders laying around that yard. WELL THAT DIDNT LAST LONG. i looked out back to see what i was going to need and there it stood, midday (12:15), all 450-500lbs of black mass looking down on me from about 40 yards away.......i didnt know what to do but clean my shorts....HOLYCRAP.
my wifes camera was just inside the door...so i grabbed it and snapped a quik photo.
our cockerspanial( tiny dog with alot of bark) decided the bear had crossed the line and let him know..i only got the one pic because of our dog but enjoy.

That is really cool! We have to take our feeders down by the end of April at camp or the bears destroy them. I was at camp this week for a couple of days. When I first arrived i noticed my McKenzie target was in the middle of the yard. A quick look and I see it has claws marks raking the hind quarters. They destroyed my other target several years ago when we we still building. It had the same marks on it, but the legs were broken off. Imagine his surprise when he attacked and it didn't run. I didn't think a bear would attack a full size deer, but this is the second one, unless maybe it was that Cougar every one talks about:yikes::D

I had one come through the yard here in downtown Traverse City last week. It was in the paper. Another one was spotted right up the road. Crazy!
