So is there anyone fishing for eyes in the river? Heard a few people say they were still in there. Anyone having any luck?

There's walleye in the Au Sable system all year. From the dam down to the mouth, there's fish. Fish slow, deep holes with minnows, leeches or crawlers during the day, and cast raps at night. A lot of the time, they will be in the logs, and you need to tempt them out. Most guys fish around the mouth for them, but they're all over. There's some big fish in there too man, over 10lbs. You can get some big pike and smallmouths as well.

Yep I see the pier guys out there every time I go by and they do catch em, seems like all summer long. I think they go for catfish at night too:evilsmile
I havent caught any big ones but a few eaters always works too.

Yep i agree. Went out and pulled a 3lb eye out of a hole. Not off the pier but a really nice healthy fish and tasty. Hoping to do some more. Alot of guys are pulling them out of the logs up river.

Where can live bait be purchased in the Tawas / Oscoda area? I'm head up to the AuSable today and plan to do some fishing.

Depending how warm the water is, you can just go to any slack water grassbed on the river and catch all the river chubs/shiners you need Or just go to one of the baitshops in Oscoda, and get some crawlers or leeches.

Go to the River store and see Lynn. He is a great guy and has some of the best crawlers in town.

Yes Lynn is a great guy. He will tell you what the fish are doing and when. Without the normal b.s. the rest of these bait stores will tell you. They are all just trying to get your money. The fundraiser we did there was a great thing for the steelies and hopefully it will happen again. I was there(helping Shawn) and met some great people from this site.

Follow 23 till you hit the 4-way light in town(River rd), take a left(if coming from the south); it's right at the bridge, you can't miss it.
