I am going camping with my dad and two brothers this weekend at the Rec area and plan on doing a ton of fishing. My dad and I make this trip every year but this year will be extra special. My second brother is now home from his second, and hopefully last tour in Iraq. The youngest is going to enlist in July. They are both in the Army. This is the first time in SO long we all can camp together.
Neither really fish, but they will give it a shot this weekend. I could care less if I net a fish as long as they do. Due to family obligations they are leaving early sunday and myself and my dad will stay to Tuesday to do some fishing. We plan on fishing the Rifle as well as a very nice feeder creek that I may have told a few of you about!
This is such at such a special place to us, as my dad has taken us there as soon as I could remember. I cannot wait. I regret they cannot stay the full time but it is understood. I will post the story and pics when I get home. I do not leave for a few more nights but I am too excited right now. If anyone is staying there stop by the Ranch Campground as we will be enjoying a warm fire, brews, good stores and some yummy trout meals!

Have a great time and I hope you all catch some fish. Tell your brother "thank you" for his service to this great country we live in.

Bring your hex flys, I gurrantee they will be hatching big this weekend and early next week. Ask Kurt adn the Northern Angelr to set you up if you are not already. I have the best luck on the white hex. Good luck to you and your family and have fun.

I just got back and we had a blast. We all caught fish and that was a good thing. The biggest trout landed was a 18 inch brown that my dad caught. Most fish were on the small side. It was very warm out and the day fishing was not all that great. I did catch about a dozen small browns each day on spinner.
Last night I was floating crawlers in deep pool when my rod bent in half. I heard the fish jump out of the water, I set my hook and the battle was on. The fish made several runs up and down stream. My dad and brothers were cheering on. I wore the fish down and got him close. I was thinking that I was seconds from pulling up the largest trout of my life. At the end of the line was the largest sucker I have ever caught! HAHAHA The fish fought like crazy and made several runs so I thought it might be a trout. Oh well it was still a riot to catch a 7-8lb fish.
It was a awesome time with my family. I took some pictures with my dad at some place that he used to take me when I was a little boy. Great memories!

Very few, insignificant hatch on the Rifle.

, I was thinking the same thing as soon as I read it. We used to fish them on the Au Gres starting in late May through most of June. Some were HUGE(6-8lbs+), and they fought like hell! Ripping line, jumping, and kicking ass pretty good for a sucker. We would get a couple beat to **** DB's too, and some nice lake run smallies. Not sure if it's still like it was then, but it was fun man.

I really haven't caught that many suckers or carp but agree now that it was a crap. That SOB put up a great fight. What made it better was I was using a 5'0" UL rod and 6lb test. WOOHOO!!!!

Ultralights are awesome. Pike, carp, cats, bass, hell even walleye actually seem to put up a fight on an ultralight. Doesn't matter what I am fishing for, my ultralight always comes with me.

Dont get to trout fish but maybe twice a year but yesterday was the best i have ever done! Fished the rifle rec area yesterday with a buddy and did pretty well i used crawlers, spinners, and spoons. My buddy used mainly flys. at the end of the day ended up catching 10 browns, 3 rainbows, 4 brookies ( which came from a creek in hale). out of those 17 fish only 5 were not legal keepers. By far one of the best trout days i have ever had. out of all the lures, flys, and crawlers the hot lure was a 12 year old copper color little cleo which suprised me becuase i never had too much luck with cleos but yesterday i was made into a believer. Luck luck guys!
