How deep should I be fishing????

I am heading out Q-see today and we have always fished near the reef and are looking to get out further..How deep should I go??? And any tackle tips are greatly appreciated....Thanks Guys....GL Stay Safe :)

Fished there Fri. and Sun., took 7 then 11. Perch colors, green and yellow did best, gold and white spinners blades. Went out 4-5 miles first time, on Sun moved farther west. Used 1oz. inlines 20-25 back, take plenty of crawlers cats are hungry good luck.
