This is a late post. Went out on Wixom Lake (off of Estey Rd.) with my brother in law on monday the 23 and christmas eve morning. Monday we didn't get out on the ice until around 3:30 and didn't deep enough water until about 4:30, but when we did, man we caught some Gills as big as our hand's, a couple were a little bigger than out hand's, with one crappie topping the evening off. It was pretty cool, because with the hallow water that we were in, and the clear water, we were able to watch the fish come, look/take our waxies & tear drops.
Chrosistmas eve morning was not as productive in the same area. I think that they hit over there better in the evening. Water was very clear. We were fishing in about 4'-5' of water give or take a few inchs. At that time there was approximatly 6" of ice. Not many people out fishing there. One guy that we talked with said that his buddy caught a 16 1/2" Crappie, then a 36" pike.
Even though we didn't get many, my brother let me have his, so a few more gill's, and i will have a nice little dinner :D
