Great year for getting out early, eh? In my memory some of the earliest icefishing I've been able to do here in SE.

I've only been out a couple of times so far. But in reading the posts of others and in talking to a number of other folks it seems like we're not catching the numbers and size of fish that we would normally expect with "early ice". Seems like I'm hearing a ton of "dinks", "light bite" and "should've been here yesterday" kind of stuff.

I admit that, to me, catching fish is nothing more than bonus points. Just love being able to walk out on the ice for some quality time. But I've always had my best "catching" in early and late ice and it doesn't seem that it's happening this year. Sure I've been able to bring home dinner for my bride (as long as I made up enough potatoes as a side!) but the numbers nor the size haven't been there as frankly I would've expected. Just wondering ... you too?

But tomorrow brings another day. Early fishing - headed out to Teeple to try my luck and in the evening out to a bud's house in Howell to see if I can bucket a mess of crappie. Either way ... catch fish or not I'm truly looking forward to getting out!

Greenglass, your right. I usually don't count on getting out till New Years. Any earlier is just a bonus and this year was a super bonus. Been out for 3- 3 1/2 weeks already.
